How Can We Make MyLot More Serious?

I recently switched over to using MyLot from Yahoo Answers and while getting paid a couple pennies every now and then is nice, Yahoo definitely has an edge when it comes to content. Here, people (myself included) will post froo-froo questions & responses just to get their 2cents but I fear that it has the problem of reducing the quality of the site overall. Thus I still peruse Yahoo Answers daily to see where I might be able to really help someone with a real problem they are going through or question that they have. Versus here, where the questions seem to be more opinionated and less substantive and the subsequent answers are too. Would there be a way to set aside or create a category/subcategory of MyLot focused on serious questions/problems only in the order of "What's the best way to ____" versus "What do you think about ____"? I mean, lets get honest here...Unless you are really pounding the referral pavement hard, you're not going to make much money here typing short responses, comments, etc. How can we, as a community, improve the quality of the questions & responses here? What are your thoughts?

Excellent, excellent, excellent observation! I very much agree with your desire. I only start and comment serious quality content. You can see that from my profile. And it takes me a long time to do it since I am a slower typist. But I will continue to do that because I am here to learn and provide good information. Perhaps one solution would be to create interest categories that reflect honest quality information seeking. Granted, there is value in shooting the breeze with friends; we all do it off-line all the time. But surface level chit chat is not when I expect to learn much new good information. For that, I call up a friend who I know will dig deeper with me. Now let's apply that principle to myLot. Start a new interest category with a specific description that you believe would solicit quality contributions. Or contribute to a quality discussion with more quality content. Lead by example. If you like, go to http://www.mylot.com/w/lists/7_182666/default.aspx for the "mylot.com quality content" interest category. Start a discussion or respond to one.
