Does anyone know of a good psoriasis treatment? I have psoriasis that comes and goes, but I have had my last outbreak for awhile now and I tend to get depressed with it. I dont have it real bad, I know it could be worse. I mostly have it on my elbows and my legs, which causes me to hate wearing shorts. I never had this before, until years and years ago when I came down with strepped throat. At first they thought it was an allergic reaction to the medicine they gave me, then I went to a dermatologist and found out what it really was. I bought this jar of MG217 medicated tar ointment from walmart for about $13.00 and it seems to help. Its just I get so busy that I alot of the time forget to put it on all of the time. Long ago when I first got it I was prescribed like a tar bath and it was like literally taking a bath in tar, but after that it went away for years. Ive mentioned that to my dr but I dont guess its around anymore, and what she gave me didnt help. Does anyone know of anything else?

treating any skin condition be it psoriasis or any other skin condiion with help of topical application like lotions, tar etc can supress the conditions for some time but this can lead to other ailments in the body and also the skin condition is likely to return in a more disasterous form. homeopathic medicines help a lot where not only the skin condition gets cure but the over all health of the individual improves. so what needs to be done is to consult an experienced homeopath.

My friend has been using Ultravate cream and has found some benefit with it. I guess it is not an over-the-counter medication but you need doctor's prescription for that, so better consult about it with your dermatologist or general physician.

I can not even tell you all the medications that I have used for my psoriasis in the last 20 years that I have had it. Mine covers approximatly 40% of my body. Not only can it be very painful at times but the itch alone will just about drive you insane. I did have luck with the Dovonex ointment but it is real expensive. I don't have health insurance anymore so it costs about $120 a tube, one tube will only last me about a week so I just can not afford that. When I used this medication I got down to only having about 12% of body covered with psoriasis so it is good. Now the only thing that I have found that will even help that I can afford is Blue Star Ointment, I get this at Wal Mart and it costs me $4.86 for a small container of it. I have looked online to see if they sell larger containers but so far I do not see that they offer in any larger than what I already buy. This container will last me approximatly one and a half weeks. It has taken most of my small patches away and has made the larger patches better so it is good. It did take a little while before I noticed real results but it has been worth it for the price that I pay. I forget to put it on like it says but at least I get it on once a day after my shower, if I would put it on more often I may have noticed more results faster. You may try this and see how it works for you. I have tried the oatmeal baths and that just does not work at all. Not for the severity that I have it. The tars I never really had any luck with either but do know that some people have. I have also read that changing our diets can help but I am not that disciplined either. I like what I like. I wish that I could help you out more but like I said I have been battling this for over 20 years and with having no actual cure out there it is hard to find anything that will work real well.

I used to have skin allergy as well. Oh my word, how they persisted on coming back. I suffered for about 10 years! It was really unsightly and uncomfortable. Like you said, some medication may cause allergy. I tried a lot of creams but nothing really helped. Finally, I heard about E. Excel products. E.Excel products don't cure your illness but they boost your immune system to help you fight seemingly incurable diseases. Thanks to God and E.Excel I have no more allergies. You can visit their website and learn more about their products and services.

I have psoriasis difficulties, too. I had to sort through many different lotions and soaps because what I found was two ingredients (glycerin and mineral oil) that were in most lotions and most soaps in the regular stores. Glycerin is the stuff that is used to blow things up. It's not a real good thing to put on sensitive skin. Mineral oil is a petroleum product - it's like putting gasoline on your skin. So, with most everydady products eliminated because of the above two ingredients, this is what I found that works extremely well: 1. Shea Nut Butter - you need to find it in it's pure form, any local health food store will have this. 2. For itch: UNpetroleum Jelly (www.avalonorganics.com) 3. Refresh Citrus Body Lotion and Vitamin E Oil - the Trader Joe's Brand (www.traderjoes.com). The lotion is basically Vitamin C and using it with the Vitamin E oil helps your skin heal fast. 4. For a soap to wash with, use Castile soap or, from Trader Joe's, there's a citrus body wash that works great. Hope that helps.

Please do not try any of the medications other than on Homeopathy...wish you were living in India. We have Dr. Batra's clinic here that does an excellent job. These things take time...please be careful. Dr. Batra's have a website and a contact address. Write to them if they can suggest a good doctor or clinic in your country (I presume you live in the United States)

I don't think theres a cure or anything because me and my sister have suffered from it for along time. I get it on my head when its cold but my sister gets it really bad in the summer on her knee. If you find something please let me know.

I suggest that you take food supplement. I remember a friend in the seminar told me about "grape seed extract" or the grape seed oil that has undergone cold process. It is good for psoriasis and other ailments as well. Why don't you try it, make some research about it. Take it 2 to 3 times a day and since it is oral medication it is so easy. I hope this helps.

I've had psoriasis for about 25 years. It's not as bad now as when I was 15. But it seems to come and go, and more so when I get stressed. The best things for me have been sunlight and swimming in the ocean. (So I told my husband he has to keep taking me to beaches, preferably in the Carribean...it seemed to go away the most in Jamaica, lol) Other than that, I just try to keep my skin hydrated. Good luck, let us know if you find something that really works!

Hi there. My mom has really bad psoriasis. If she couldn't go out in the sun (that's what helps her), she would just run a UV light that you can buy from your local hardware store over the affected area. It seemed to help. I know with the winter weather, there isn't much sun, well atleast here in Canada, so getting out in the sun is hard these days. But give the light thing a try, it might work for you.
