It happened to me about 4 years ago when I'm at the second floor of our laboratory building, I use the rest room in the first floor every time I have my class in that building. One time we have a review at the second floor and I decided to go to the rest room maybe because of instincts that after going out of the room I'll just have to turn left to go to the men's rest room. Without thinking that I'm at the second floor of the building I rushed to the girl's rest room and I'm feel so nervous that they might scream because a man entered there rest room. I really can't forget that day. lol

Yes, it's happened to me a few times when I've been in a hurry. Usually I realise by the layout of the room (like if there were urinals in there), but a couple of times I hadn't realised until after I'd used the toilet. I don't think it's really a big deal. If people realise that you did it accidentally then I don't think they would mind in most cases. When I studied in France there were mixed male and female toilets and it made me realise that it's not that important to have segregated facilities; people don't have them in their homes, so it's okay when this happens once in a while.
