Which book would you most likely pick up at a bookstore?

First choice - A detective story - love the human mind. If I don't find anything interesting , or have read most of the stuff on the shelf, then maybe science fiction (Fantasy?) Next choice would be a story about a family (Swiss family Robinson, Gone with the wind,?) and last would be mushy stuff. I do like reading about pirates, and I do like books based on historical facts-authors such as James Michener, etc. There is also another category that I like-books similar to Atlas Shrugged, Fountainhead - by Ayn Rand.

As mentioned by you, I keep buying the Ayan Rand's books. I have read most of them, still I buy to give presents. Next, I buy short story collection books. They are nice to read.

For me, it would have to be either something from Anne Rule, as I Love her books... or a New novel by either Danielle Steele or Debbie MaComber.

I start by looking at the best sellers. Usually something along the line of a good non-fiction novel. I like mysteries too. I have some special authors I like to read. Then I browse the self help isles. I like a variety of books and authors.

In the recent past, may be five years or so, I have developed a liking for Sydney Sheldon series of fiction novels. So my first choice, nowadays, are these. I love the simple way in which the stories are written. Also these books can be found in every part of the world. Apart from these, I like the Novels of the authors like Anita Desai, R K Narayan....these guys also have a very simple way of narration. But I seldom find them in all bookstands. In my student life I liked to read Bengali novels a lot(I am a Bengali), specialy family stories of Sarat Chandra Bandopadhay and stories on travel and leisure.
