Does it rarely snow where you live?

It almost never snows here anymore, and it used to snow a lot. When I was growing up here in the 1960s, we'd get at least 4 or 5 snowfalls each winter, each averaging 6 to 12 inches. Now we're lucky if we get one snowfall of 2 or 3 inches. Today, the flood alarm system for the city I live in held it's monthly test by having the alarm sound for a minute or two. Just as the alarm sounded, it started snowing outside my house, making it seem like snow is SUCH a rarity here that alarms go off whenever it happens. Which is just about true. :P But I'm not bitter. :P

Hey, I have noticed this big change at my place too. Last year it snowed like 6-7 time with 8-12 inches of snow on a average. This year its so mild. Temperatures are still low but unless last year, winter is mild. Well! scientifically Global warming is the cause but for us, its just a good break :)

The next time you get 6-7 snowfalls with 8-12 inches of snow, email the snow to me. I'll gladly take it. :

I live in the Philippines and just like what some people posted beforehand, it never snows here in the country. I've always dreamed of snow falling here in the country but I guess those thoughts would forever be in my dreams..

I don't know. The way the climate is changing in some parts of the world, you may see snow someday in your country. :)

I grew up in the 70's and I remember playing in drifts, and huge snowpiles as a kid every winter. I haven't seen snow like that in years.

I live in Canada, it used to snow here a lot but last year we didn't get as much as we usually get, and this year we've barley got any. Winter is almost over and there is barley any snow on the ground!! We haven't had a snow storm yet either, which is very odd because one of those usually happens before December. I'm not complaining though! =D

I wish it rarely snowed where I am...I'm so used to (and sick of) brutal winters living where I do and growing up where I did...I live in Western NY now (in between Buffalo and Rochester and about 5 miles from Lake Ontario so we get lake effect snow) adn I grew up in Niagara Region Ontario Canada where the winters could get pretty nasty....Damn snowbelt regions LOL

Where do you live? I'm from PA and the same thing seems true for us. I can remember having quite a few snow days home from school because of all the snow. We played in the snow all the time! The last few years, we just haven't had the snow we used to. It did snow the last couple of days, but it's really the first snow we've had this year! I actually had to scrape the snow off the van this morning and I haven't done that yet this winter.

I'm envious! I want to have to scrape snow off my windshield! :) I live in East Tennessee. I live in the mountains, and in the higher elevations they do get more snow, naturally. But even in the high mountains, they don't get the snow they used to. As someone who can see the detrimental effect of gas and industrial emissions by just looking at the bare trees in the mountains, I firmly believe in Global Warming, because I'm experiencing it.

I live in the deep south (US) and it hardly ever snows here. If it does, it's only a few flurries. I think the last time it snowed a lot (a lot for us is 2-3 inches lol) was about 7 years ago.

Just wondering. I've noticed how, at least in the U.S., this year the weather seems to be weird. Places that are usually warm are cold. Places that are usually cold are warm. Parts of Arizona are getting snow, which is unheard of, while other places, such as where I live, are having hot weather when it's usually freezing. Even more, it seems that places all the country (and in other countries, too) that used to get a lot snow 30 or 40 years ago now hardly get any. At first I though it was just where I lived, but I'm finding it's pretty widespread.

I live in Southern California and it does not snow in my city but it does snow in the mountains about 1 1/2 hours north of my home. We try to get up there at least twice in the winter for little mini vacations so my son and his friends can go snowboarding. We just came back a couple of weeks ago and we are going again in 3 weeks. It's really beautiful and nice that we can go and enjoy it but then come home when we are tired of it. We get to enjoy the snow without the work :) It did snow quite a bit one night here at my house about 5 years ago. It was a rare surprise. It also snowed again for about 30 minutes earlier this month. Our area gets pretty cold in the winter but not enough for real snow all the time. I love it here!

When I was young I always dreamt of seeing snow, I think this is true for most of the people who was born and raised in a tropical country. I was lucky to have experienced snow when I travel some years back. I stared from behind the glass doors of a train station in Switzerland looking how beautiful the snow was. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of me in the snow as a souvenir. Now, I'm saving so at least I could bring my daughter to the nearest country from wher we are, where there is snow.

I'm lucky enough to live in the snowbelt! Right off Lake Erie we get tons of snow! And I am not complaining! As a matter of fact, know what I'm doing when I get the "empty nest" syndrome in a few years? Moving to ALASKA! LOL Seriously, I am dying to live there and have loved it there since I was a child. I cannot wait to move!

It very rarely snows here. Maybe once every 10 years! Funny thing is, there are little snowflakes on the street signs out here. I have never been able to figure that out. Weird huh?

Maybe they think they'll attract snowflakes by painting them on the street signs? Or maybe the guys on your street department are just weird. :)

It doesn't snow in the Philippines. As to less snowfall in your area I believe that global warming may have something to do with that and the only thing I can think of to help with that is to plant trees/plants. Trees do have more impact but not all have space to plant trees. Plants still help in using up the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

I live in the woods, surrounded by mountains so I'm surrounded by trees. The trees in the upper elevations are being killed by insects and by emissions from cars and industry and, I believe, effects from global warming. But there are still lots of trees up there, and lots where I live. I couldn't live somewhere that didn't have a lot of trees. I hate open spaces. I feel exposed.

Rarely snow? it never snows here in Malaysia. It's rainy almost all year long. sigh! Wish the rain would turn into snow at some point in time. But I guess that would be really weird, huh? Oh, there was some 'frozen rain' or something...it wasn't snow exactly, I'm not really sure of the exact term for it in English, and it only fell in one small region of Malaysia.

Hi :) We call that "Hail" here in America. Little hard balls of ice that fall from the sky instead of rain. Sometimes as large as golf balls which can do alot of damage!
