Do we teach children to kill?

Gun Toy - Are we sponsoring violence to kids with gun toys?

The other day a friend of ours gave us a fire truck toy. An hour later after he left we realized that this fire truck toy had on the top a strange duct that did not appear to us as anything dangerous. When we looked inside that duct we found three balls. Consecutively we discovered the button that shoots the balls. And they are shot as hard as you cannot imagine (considering this toy is for young kids). We decided to take those balls away and let our son play with it without teaching him about that. All he does is push the fire truck forwards and backwards. Are we sponsoring violence to kids (which are the future) when we buy for kids gun toys? Is this the reason why crimes are on the raise?

We don't teach our children discipline, we don't set boundaries anymore. The video games lessen the severity of the crime of killing. We don't give them enough chores to keep idle hands busy. We don't offer hope to our young people. The toys in the right hands are ok no matter what they are since they can be used to teach about the realities of our lives. We are charged with raising our children to respect others, tolerate differences and to communicate. Just my thoughts and thanks for asking the question.

Thanks or bringing up the video games factor. Did you remember in Denzel Washington's "Inside Man" when the little boy (hostage) was playing a video game and stated that everytime they did something bad such as killing they would earn points? I think this is a good example.

Slums of Delhi - Can humans live like this?
crimes are on the rise because of lots of poverty and hunger thats spread in the world. stress of earning your daily bread is another factor. crime was there in old days too but we heard of it too late or too less. now better meands of communicaton make a local news spread world wide. Once I was walking past apoor slum rea of Delhi, I saw six to seven people cramped in a 5 by s feet room, smaller than my store room with no doors(wooden door) or windows living there. The klanes were so small that only one person could cross to either side at a time. Majority of the population was rickshaw pullers or small vegetable vendors those who sell fro m door to door. I imagined if such people ever come to my colony with lavish parks and four to six persons living in a four bedroom houses and each one owning at least on vehicle per household,it would seem to them a luxury that they could never attain in their lives. wont they be tempted to steal or rob some of us. Its human if they feel that way. Thats the main reason the crimes are commited. not because of games or videos or movies.

I believe so, mdilan. Children are not born with a natural tendency for violence; although they are each born with their own will! Children often pick up good or bad habits from their environment. Humans learn, formally or informally, from observations, experiences and guided instructions. It is very important that parents help a child with controlling what the child sees, hears or reads (seeing all these are of major influences in a child's life). Love, hate, racial discrimination, etc. are all learned!

Of course. It is the American way to desensatize out children at the earliest age so that as they grow they become more willing to serve in the army or to survive in the streets that are left to crumble under the up turned nose of our own government. If you think about it things have not changed in the last 20-30 years. Possibly they have gotten worse.

In some ways I do think we are responsible for this , there is more and more violence every year . Weather it is in what our children watch or who they hang out with or the toys that we buy for them . There is so much violence everywhere these days that it is hard to sheild our children from it completely .

Since we as parents are the first teachers look at all the things we condone in our society. Violence is just one with the video games and movies/tv, we supply them with enough destructive things to become killers and even worse. We have cartoons that are no longer fun but more and more violence. This is something we must adjust or doom the human race.

Yes, but in a way we have to. It is a violent world that we live in.

I think video games have a big thing to do with it. I'm not gonna lie, i'm into video games, but I think im pretty mature enough to handle it. I wont go killing somebody because of a character in a game. but on the other hand a little kid may see that, and think its cool. I mean they dont know any better. Half the time the child is not taught right from wrong when it comes to that stuff.

I think that the society is learning to the children to kill and hate their parents. I think that many crimes in our cities raised from these problems when the people were children so the most important is to teach to the children the good about the life, have a nice day on mylot and happy earnings also.

well, the problem described by you is very interesting. But with the help of toys we can really spread the message of destruction amongs the children. The toys must be designed in such a way that they are helpful to the kids for learning their basic subjecta and the world and about the nature. It depends on one how it takes to that toys and how it uses one.

That's an extremely hard question to answer. I honestly don't think it's teaching them violence any more than the television, movies, and video games teach violence, hatred, and segregation. I think crimes are on the rise more because kids get bored, they find thrills in things they're NOT supposed to do and nobody is there to tell them to stop, or teach them the difference between right and wrong. Granted some children may never listen but I don't believe people are trying hard enough to raise there children the best they can and pass it off like it's not there fault.

Yes, toys are getting more and more dangerous nowadays. Not only do they seem to promote violence, they can also pose as a hazard for unknowing kids, who may just accidentally shoot themselves in the eye.

Definitely not. Parent shouldn't buy those toys that you think can harm your child or others. Let them use those educational and not that violent one. Parent should be aware enough on buying those toys for their children.

I don't have any children yet, i want kids, but as the years pass things are just getting worse and worse. I wonder how I will be able to raise kids in this world and have them turn out good and honest. The way my 15 year old sister acts like she's so grown up and knows what love is scares me. I do believe children are more violent because of tv, video games, and toys that are popular now.

For me it is just a result of rapid development of our technology. Maybe your friend didn't want to harm your child ^_^
