...are out traveling American roads? We made a 2-hour trip today on Interstate 80, and both lanes were completely full of 16-wheelers. It's gotten hard for cars to maneuver out there. Is this a problem in other countries like it is in the US?

The more trucks on the road means the better the economy, those trucks are full of product on its way to your local stores. I know that sometimes it can be hard to drive with them on the interstates but without them the country would come to a stop. When we had the two bad blizzards in a row the trucks couldn't get through town to make deliveries. The grocery stores ran out of dairy, fresh fruit, meat, and breads. On top of tons of other things. Truckers really are the heartbeat of America. Okay I give, can you tell my husband works for the railroad and my brother is a trucker.

Well said Scrappin, its true the trucks are a pain, it's also true they are a necessity. I wish we could go back to the days when trucks were allowed only in the 2 right hand lanes. Oh well, that's progress for ya.

I guess I liked the old days when more was shipped via rail. The trains struck out thru open country and left the roads to the cars. When I lived near I24, it seemed like every accident they reported on TV involved a truck which usually meant fatalities.

Yes, we have an Interstate Highway I use to get to work, and they are all over the road and it does make it hard when it's only a 4 way lane. 2 going north, 2 going south. No wonder there's road rage!

As of last year there were over 3 million truckERs, with about 80% of them on the roads at any given time, except overnight and that is a few less. My husband (a trucker by the way) agrees with me that they should build a section of road just for them, especially in major cities where its harder for them to not get stuck in traffic. Much like the seperate lanes for commuters that they have in the larger cities. It's not their fault they have to travel the same roads as the "4-wheelers". Most of them are decent people, and can drive better than most of the people driving cars. I-80 is also one of their favorite interstates, as it runs entirely east-west, so you can take it clear across the country, and into the northeast. In case it makes anybody feel any better, they don't like driving with all the cars any better than the cars like driving with them. The problem in my humble opinion lies with the amount of traffic as a whole, not just with the truckers/trucks on the road. Especially in the larger populated areas, getting around is hard, with or without the trucks (you couldn't pay me enough to routinely drive Dallas streets, even where the trucks aren't allowed). Just a note, not trying to be a problem, but they have 18 wheels, not 16.
