Cutting Off That Negative Enegry - Literally!

It's been said that that the negative energy from bad experiences and stress is stored in our hair. By cutting off our hair, we release that energy and free ourselves from the trappings of the past. I don't know if I believe this. But I do know that a large majority of women will go and get their hair cut after a serious relationship has ended or they've lost a job. It's a symbol of rebirth, of a new start, a 'whole new you'. Women change their hair more than they change anything else about themselves. And I realized that hair has always been symbolic, through history. The cutting of hair to mourn the dead, the growing of hair to prove strength and virility, the dozens of myths and legends that focus on the hero or damsel or villain's hair.... I admit, it's not something I've thought about much until today. I just got back from a haircut - my hair went from mid-back length to now not even reaching my chin - and I remembered that little kernel about hair storing negative energy. I wonder where it all started.

PS - for those of you that decide to try this theory out, don't forget about the Locks of Love program. Go to www.locksoflove.org to learn how to donate your hair. The hair is then used to make wigs for people undergoing chemotherapy. It's for a good cause, and just think of how much more negativity you'd be able to get rid of! Just a thought!

Going to die your hair "purple" ? Ever hear of Geri LaRue, the fictional hearing impaired reporter created by Bonnie Hearn-Hill? Purple haired Geri LaRue is featured in a triology of novels. Just my 2 cents concerning purple hair.

I would love to donate, but whenever I've had my hair cut off in large amounts it's been ridiculously unnatural colors. I admit it, I'm a compulsive dyer. When I'm done having to be blond, it's going to purple.

I tend to donate my hair when it's cut, assuming it's long enough. In fact, right now I feel a little guilty that I'm not growing it out long enough to donate again. I simply don't have enough time and energy to take care of it, though, not to mention how much easier it would be for my little monster (umm... son) to pull out then.

I have a hard time believing you have much pent up negative energy. Seems like you're pretty efficient at releasing it;)

Oh, I have no trouble with getting out my negative energy. :D My head does feel lighter, though.

Oh, I love it. It's short and spiky and shaggy and just the way I like it. Long hair is a pain for me - I hate having to brush it and spend so much time washing it and it gets *everywhere*. I'm just not good with hair. :D

Well this is a new one on me. I actually hate it if someone goes scissors mad at the hairdressers and cuts my hair shorter than I want it. It depresses me. Maybe I store my neg energy in my nails. Im compelled to continiously bite them off and it does release tension for me.

I believe this is possible. I have had several occasions where I have been completely overwhelmed. So I have cut my own hair. And like you mentioned, I feel reborn after doing this. Somehow with shorter hair I feel like I have the strength to face the world and overcome any obstacle. Perhaps this action takes away the visual reminder of femininity. Society tends to view women with longer hair as more delicate. Cutting of the hair might be an unconscious symbol of casting off that sterotype.

I've never heard of this theory. If that's the case, then wouldn't all of the bald people be much happier? Just a thought. It just sounds really weird to me. Where did you hear about this?

It's one of those new age theories. It's interesting to think about, at least.

I have not heard that people believe that negativity is carried in the hair. It is an interesting idea. I do know that some people cut it after a break up or what not because they also generally tend to get new clothing and go out more often. I just always thought of it as a new start really.

That's interesting about hair. I never knew that. Thanks for sharing this. It's definitely something to think about.

I have heard of many women who cut their hair during pregnancy or after having a baby, so maybe it is somehow linked to a new start or beginning of some kind. I rarely cut my hair so I hope that I don't have a lot of negative energy.

It never occured into my mind yet, about the connection between negative energy and hair. I became aware of the connection the moment I read your thread and I realized that hair has a lot of influence on human lives. As my personal experience is concerned I noticed that when I have my hair done I feel great, better and light but I'm not sure if it is because I don't feel good about my previous hairdo and when it was changed is the reason why I feel better after it was gone.

yeah to think about it, i did feel 'lighter' after a haircut. It seemes that i felt fresher and almost more cheerful. However, i somehow think that it could be due to something called believe. If we believe that after a haircut it could take our worries off then it could probably happen to you, it's kinda something in your mind. The mind is controlling how you feel.

Head is on top of the body, and hair is on the head. When someone want to erase a bad experience and have a new beginning, they would like to chosse to clean the hair, which means beginning from the starting point... About two years ago, I was in depression for about one months because of break-up with my girl friend. After I escaped from the bad mood, the first thing I did is to cutt off my hair. After that, I was always wearing short hair, no long hair after that..

its also said that you can release positive or negetive energy while getting massages....eastern medicine believes that when a massage therapist gives someone a massage they can pick up on their vibes or engergy whether the are good or bad....it could leave the massage therapist feeling engergized....or leave them feeling like crap....I guess you could say its sorta like someone stealing your energy! ..........

That is intresting. I have never heard that but in a way it makes sence. Every time I get a hair cut I do feel better, not just the weight being cut off but I do feel a release. I never understood why but now I guess I do. This time I think to fully release tho I think I need to go bald and really start over.

Let's see, now. Hair? Negative energy? Cutting it all off? "I wonder where it all started?" I went through the entire thead and did not see anyone mention Samson and Delilah. I'm guessing that was the start of this.

What an interesting thought! I remember my grandmother telling my aunt to have her daughter's hair cut because it was taking her energy and I thought that was just silly, but maybe not! Also, I do get my hair cut when I am down in the dumps sometimes. It does cheer me up.

That is an interesting thought! Maybe because I keep my hair so short is the reason why I have so little negative energy! It sounds to me like you really like your haircut and as a result you feel more confident about yourself. I would call that more postive energy as a result rather then cutting off the negative energy, but it is your life nad your view, so as long as you are feeling good then you can think of it any way that you choose!

i dont think it in this way... hair may have some history of itself but taking the hair wont get the negative energy out it will take only some few grams from your head... usually girls like to have a long hair than boys so cuting the long grown hair for some kind of beleife is not good...

Well I have to disagree - I have been maried and divorced not once but twice in my lifetime....but the last time I had an actual "haircut" (not a trim) was in 1970! My hair is about 6" below my waist (had a period of about 10 years it didn't grow very fast lol) - and to be honest, the thought never crossed my mind to cut it when I went through both of my divorces. On the flip side - have heard about the "negative energy" thingie, just never put much store in it - IMO - you make your OWN karma.
