I can remember growing up and thinking about foods I absolutely hated and throughout the years found to really love them. Now, I'm still a picky eater, but nowhere near as bad as I was growing up... One thing I hated was vegetable (excluding corn), now my selection of veggies is alot better than before...I didn't really like seafood growing up..Now, that's one of the first things I want next to steak..lol I didn't even like steak as a child, I don't believe I liked it as a teenager... So this topic is about food throughout the years you found are really good and actually one of your favorites...Please share your stories or things you find you like to eat...

have you seen or eaten durian fruit.... it has a very nasty odor & the fruit peeling has lots of thorns as you'll hold it. as i was a kid i really hate the odor & won't even dare to eat the fruit even but when i met my husband who has a farm of this fruit in their city & keeps on telling me that the taste is so great & its so creamy like an ice cream as eaten frozen. just then i tasted it & found out that it's very delicious ...just don't mine the odor coz when we eat the odor was just mild rather than smelling it out from somewhere... if your in U.S. you can still taste this wonderful fruit of davao, philippines from asian stores as the frozen fruit they sell by pack. FROZEN DURIAN...

Ahh... thank you for that..I have never heard of the fruit, but as picky as I am, if there is odor, I probably wouldn't eat it. Maybe someone who reads this post can try it..thank you for the information..also thank you for responding..

I was a very picky eater when I was a child. I don't know how my parents put up with me. There were so many foods I hated and refused to eat. One food I hated as a child and now enjoy is spinach. I also hated rice, and now I love rice. Another food I hated was tomatoes, and now I enjoy eating them. It is funny how our food tastes change over the years. I am just glad I am not so picky anymore.

I used to hate onions in any of my food when I was a kid. But now I love onions especially in a sandwich. I used to eat candy but not so much chocolate. Now I love chocolate especially dark chocolate and hardly ever eat candy.

Growing up, I could not stand broccoli.I thought is was disgusting. When I was pregnant with one of my kids, I started craving it.I couldn't get enough. Now, I love it. I do not like BBQ.Never have.During my pregnancy with my last child,I went through a short time of craving it. My husband was thrilled. He was sure that I would start wanting BBQ from then on. No, I still can't stand BBQ.

Clam Chowder. I live in New England, and we would go clamming-gross, come home, shuck the clams, grind them up and eat clam chowder. I hated it. Now, I love it and am always trying to improve my own recipe. (I still won't go clamming though)

I'm a very fussy eater. I'm vegetarian, and have a massive list of food I don't like outside that (chocolate, leeks, mushrooms, anything spicy, anything in sauce other than tomato...) I tend to stick with what I like. That said, I have been trying to eat things that I don't think I like, such as kiwi fruits. I never liked them growing up, tried them over the summer and now I can't get enough! Tastes change, I suppose.

Well i am not a fussy eater. I used to eat home cooked food prepared by my mother. The big change i can think of is that in childhood i was a non vegetarian and used to eat chicken and fish. And it was yummy with all the spices and what not. But now i am total vegetarian so i dont' any of those stuff. I have always eaten fruits and vegetables that are available for the season. And i must say i enjoy most of them. I also like home cooked rice, chapptis, vegetable soups, indian hot curries, yoghurt, dals, salad which is available. Basically i like balanced diet.

I didn't like a lot of vegetables when I was younger, but have grown to love them as I have gotten older. I used to cringe when my parents would make Chicken Chow Mein...Yuck then....and Yuck now. I hated to eat it! I didn't like fish, and my family eats a lot of fish and fresh steamed crabs...I hate the fishy smell and taste, and still do. I have tried to find ways to introduce various things for my kids to try so that they get a variety, and try not to let my dislike of a certain food, hinder them trying them, it's hard. I hate peas...but will make them in stew,or roasts, and will tolerate them then. I used to hate homemade Chicken Pot pies...but love them now, maybe it's different as you get older when you are the one cooking the food! I do know as you get older your tastes change, and something that was nasty to you before can be quite tasty, if cooked in a certain way.

I always hated mayonaisse but around my 30s I began to eat it in small doese in tuns and pasta salads, dressings and such. I still do not spread it on bread and use in a sandwich (yuuuccck), but can tolerate it better now. I love STEAMED SHRIMP. You cant get me away fron the fish department in the stores, and when at the beach - the freshest catch is always the best eating.

Haha, I was just thinking about this the other day, actually! ^_^ My family makes a large meal with mostly vegetables and also a meat dish every day for our lunch, and I love how healthy we eat (for lunchtime, anyway.) *laugh* Anyway, I was remembering back to when I was a kid, how much I didn't want to eat those veggies. Even broccoli was kind of gross to me. Now I love all kinds of things that I found gross then, like parsnip and rutabega and brussel sprouts! ^_^ I eat them pretty much every single day, and they're all quite tasty. It makes me wonder what I was thinking as a kid. I guess that I wanted something more sweet? It's really hard to remember, and it makes me curious wondering when it was that my tastes changed so much! ^_^

yes, it is ture that we become to like the foods we don't like before. As to me, I don't eat pork when I am a kid,but now I begin to eat pork and it really tastes good. But some habit will never change, I don't like the taset of mutton when I was young and I still don't like the taste now.

I absolutely despised fried shrimp when I was younger. I would refuse to touch it. I finally tried some when we were at a restaurant on the Gulf Coast. It was so good, and I wanted to kick myself for not eating it all those years. I guess the better fresh shrimp taste got me started, and now I usually make do with the frozen breaded kind when I can afford it.

I have always been really picky. When I was little, the rule at our house was, if you don't like what we are having for dinner, you get a peanut butter sandwich. As a child I ate at least 3 peanut butter sandwiches a week. Usually even more. I still find it hard to eat most of those foods. Green beans still make me ill just opening the can. Macaroni and cheese is really about the only thing I can think of that I actually like now that I didn't like growing up. But now I only like Velveeta Shells and Cheese so I guess it's totally different than the Kraft with powdered cheese that my mom used to make anyway. I always hated spaghetti as a kid, my husband makes it sometimes now and I can tolerate it. I still don't like it, but I will eat it. Same thing with broccoli, as long as it is uncooked I can eat a piece or two. My mom always gives me a hard time about it still. She thinks its so funny that I cook so many things that I swore I never would. But I still don't eat them, I only cook them for my husband and son. Luckily, so far anyway, my son is just like Daddy and eats anything you put in front of him.

Yes you lucky, My son was like me and still to this day picky as I was... When we go to restaurants I have to scan the menu to make sure there are things he like on it..lol But I can't be upset with him I was the same way too.. I never like mac and cheese either, I don't like the taste of yellow cheese, it makes me cringe.....thank you for responding

Hehe, I had posted something about our changing palates at my personal blogsite (www.dragonmojo.com/2007/01/ooh-that-smell.html#links). I cooked up some shrimp in a skillet and threw in garlic that I minced. Mmm, garlic. Garlic was one of those things that I did not particularly care for when I was a kid. My but how the palate changes. I dated a girl once whose little brother (at the time he was around 12 years old) figured that the reason adults tolerated a lot of the foods that he disliked is due to the loss of taste buds as we grow older. Seems to make sense to me, but I'd have to hear it from the medical and scientific circles. But, sometimes I wonder if they really know.
