children who live off of TV.

I need to know what do you think is a normal amount of time that a small child should watch tv. I have heard from some studies that small children should not watch TV at all. But come on, I know some kids love their kids cartoons, and I find nothing wrong with kids watching some tv. But what if someone you know is letting their child LIVE off of tv? I recently saw this for myself and it made me sick. I mean this child was living off of the tv ALL day and almost late into the evening. I was sickened because even though my own children would watch TV, they only watch 2-3 hours IF THAT in a day, because they are so busy doing their things with school and daycare. I mean how can someone have their child LIVE off of the tv? Personally I can't stand it when my kids watch more than 3 hours in a day, it drives me nuts, and now I would love to hear how other people feel about this.

i used to think that my daughter did not need to watch tv she got her tv time in when us as a family watched a movie andx that was that. but over the last year or so, she has been watching tv. my husband and i even get into the shows that she watched. i allow her to watch as many shows as she can fit in before school which is usually 2 shows and then maybe another hour in the later evening, she usually curls up on the couch with me and watches my lifetime movie. i never thought tv was approaite for her, but the shows that she does watch are actually educational, dora, blues clues, backayargians, wonder pets, they all teach children different things at different levels. depending on what is being wached relly depends on how long she can watch it.
