Why do some people fight about religion?

We all have different religion, opinions, beliefs so why fight about religion? Some people even resort to war to prove that their religion is the best, that is so absolutely ridiculous. Do you think their God (whatever they call him) will rejoice when his people are killing other people? Religion aside, I believe that fighting is generally BAD so if we want to prove that our Religion is good we must be good towards other people. I hope we can all learn to respect each other and live in peace.

Religions and beliefs do not promote war or cruelty . It's the human nature that does ... Religions only guide to righteousness but the people misguided it.. Put the blame on us but not religions ... So think..

Please read my discussion again. I will quote myself "Some people even resort to war to prove that their religion is the best, that is so absolutely ridiculous." It mean I think people who uses their Religion as their reason for war are stupid. I'm not saying that religion is the reason for every war, it's the people, just like you said. So now I'll say to you what you said. SO THINK.

I think, it has something to do with the way they have been bought up. The early phase of a child is a very important one. As per Psycology, that is the phase which determines the base of thinking of a person. As a child's mind is alomost empty, with no particular beliefs, its very easy to 'tune' his mind i that phase. Anything he sees and obeserves around him, has a lasting impression on his beliefs and once he gets an initial influence on any subject, he gets used to it. Those beliefs in a long run acquires a strature of 'cult' and it becoomes very hard for him to look beyond those set beliefs. You can say , his body gets programmed as a computer, and his beliefs are like 'auto reply' - irrrespective of what you ask from thereon - you get a standard reply :) So its like, if i teach a child that we have a religion 'A' , its best. Other relgions are nothing or inferior, only ours is significant. Now if i keep on repeating these words, then a child would not able to discriminate between good or bad. He gobviously is influenced by his parents and will think that they are right. So , there is no way that he will think elsewise. Now that he has been bought up in that kind of enviornment, he gets accustomed to it, and anything from theron, which contradicts this belief (ie MY RELIGIN IS BEST), will lead to a level of discomfert in him, irrespective of however logically he is being convinced. The reason i see is simple - his parents / envoirnment around him has been like that, so its very hard to alter his thoughs. Mind you, It can be done, but generally , i have seen its very hard to convince such people. I have hardly seen any exception to this theory.

People fight about religion because they can not accept the fact that their way isn't the only way. If there was only one right way of doing things, and the wrong way would be condemned to he!!, then there'd only be one religion.

Good point. I don't see why people don't just accept that there are many religion in this world and people have their own free will to choose whatever religion they want to belong to.

Its any one of the two who say something bad about the others religion and the disputes starts between the two and its mistake of that guy who makes a start. If both of the person keeps quite and say nothing about each others religion then dispute will never occur.

basically that should have been the perception of mankind regardless of their religion. but you see, religion, like race, language, ideology etc. presupposes territoriality not only in terms of demography or geographybut also of the mind. indeed, the mind has its own territory. people who fight against another religion had created a space only for people belonging in his own religion. the concept of distinguishing the one's own religion from the rest is not unexpected. you're point of suspending all biases and prejudices is exactly the same point of adhering to the natural law, the law which binds our common humanity. unfortunately, people dismiss the existence of the natural law (which is founded both on reason and faith) and tend to believe only the teachings of man. the worst is yet to come when believers "blindly adhere" to their teachers. some texts in the holy scriptures are taken out of context so as to justify their mistake. i agree with you. there's no point in fighting about religion. but now that the TRUTH is being challenge, all religion must stand up and commit themselves to the truth. we will fight for the truth and by fighting, i do not mean violence whatsoever.
