Hi, maybe I can recommend avira antivir personal classic edition. This can be downloaded free at www.free-av.com I have been using this software for almost two years. Since using it, I have never encountered any problems at all with regards to the overall function and system performance of my machine. Otherwise, I am so impressed and grateful with its performance. It updates on a regular basis and can be scheduled any time you want. It is very light on resources and does not use a lot of memory. Hence, does not slow down your machine. I would also suggest superantispyware as your antispyware software for your machine. It does its jobs pretty well and very effective. Hope this would help. Have a nice day and God speed!

I tried out sygate when I was on Win 98, I think I had trouble updating zonealarm, so I downloaded sygate instead. I use AVG anti-virus and antispyware software.

suya use both of them NOD32 Antivirus and ZoneAlarm Pro. The best combination for Virus and Spyware remover plus a Firewall

Thanks I think someone else posted about NOD32, I have used zonealarm, presumably you have to pay for the 'pro' version??

I will have to investigate AVIRA... I have spybot and use it regularly - Interestingly, I also use The AVG version of anti-spyware software and that routinely finds different errors from spybot - I recommend trying another anti-spyware to see if it picks up anything AFTER you have run Spybot.I reccommend keeping spybot though, because that finds errors that other programes don't... Thanks very much for your input

I have used adaware and still have it on my laptop - even though I update it regularly, it hasn't found much spyware lately... so I wonder if it is really effective. McAfee is not free software unless you have it bundled with some other software is it??

I am currently using kaspersky internet security 2007 and I didnt have any problems on anti virus ever since. I used norton before and it slows my computer. I also used avast but i get a lot of false alarms. I used Mcafee and its the same as norton (my pc is crawling) because it runs a lot of processess on your system. Try kaspersky internet security. you can download it (trial) to http://www.kaspersky.com (its complete from anti virus, anti spyware, firewall etc..)

Thanks I have not heard of that one at all, presumably there is a trial version and then a version you pay for? If it really does do all those things, spyware and firewall included then it may well be worth paying for if it is as good as you say...

Hi there livewyre.. Before I used AVG (for free), but its not too secured that i get spywares all the time. SO installed the AVG anti-spyware, it didnt work either.. then I shifted NORTON (which I purchased) but I had so much trouble with it because its too secured that it even blocks wireless connection on my PC. So I went ahead and search for something that is not too secured and not too "lenient".. ehehe (what a word!).. I found AVAST. I like so much because it give a loud siren noise when it detect a virus or spyware. And the one that i like most is when it updates the software, it talks! yeah it talks! "YOUR VIRUS DATABASE IS NOW UPDATED!" its cool!

Thanks for that Josh - I have heard of Avast, I'm not sure that I want software that talks to me though... I had a CDROM drive that talked to me - I had to uninstall it, it was driving me nuts!
