Telemarketers

It seems that telemarketers are always calling my house late at night. I've had them call as late as 9:30 p.m. I usually get quite frustrated with them. The other night, I had a guy call asking me about my credit card debt (which I don't have) and I told him that it was too late for him to be calling me, did he realize what time it was? He said No, I just want to know if you would like to consolidate your debt? I told him, even if I HAD credit card debt, I would not do business with you or your company, you are calling my house at 9:30 at night and expect me to want to do business with you, I have two young children, never call here again. HE said "you don't have to be rude" or something to that extent. Do you think I was rude.. Maybe I was.. I don't know.. I know it irritated me.

When they called me in the mornings I used to put my 3 year old on the phone and tell her that they wanted to hear the song from winnie the pooh. At night I would just put the phone down and let them keep talking while I sat down and watched t.v. or go back to doing what I was doing. They stopped calling me after that, I didn't get another call for months.

Ha!(; I have given my 2 year old the phone a couple of times as well, telling him they wanted to speak to him.. and he would talk thier ears off. (: It was fun for him and it made me laugh. (: thanks for your response.

Now that is a good tactic! I haven't had anyone say that they have done that before. This is good when you have a little one who likes to talk and talk on the phone and they are so focused on themselves and not what the telemarketer is trying to say! Nice job!

That is definitely one of the best tactics. My 3-year old loves to talk on the phone. :)

I have gotten calls from 8 in the morning until 9 at night. I get really fed up with them too. It seems that most of their calls are automated, so I dont even get a chance to tell them off.

yes, I hate that as well, especially when it's late and I want to give them a piece of my mind, and it turns out to be a machine! *sigh* (:

What I do is pick up the phone and then lay it down. They seem to just keep talking. After about 5 mins I pick it up and they are gone. I have told them to not to call but they don't listen. No you were not rude. They need to learn to call during the day and not at night. I do know that alot of times its a computer that dials up the numbers. They need to reprogram them.

I've never had a telemarketer call after about 8.00pm. Most call late afternoon, early evening: just when I'm busy with cooking. I don't mind their call. At least they are working and trying to earn a living. Depending on what stage of cooking I'm at, I usually try to let them get a little talk in before telling them very politely that I don't need a holiday, and that if I do, I'll arrange one myself to go to visit family - or that I don't need help with a mortgage because I own my own home - or whatever. The only thing that annoys me is when they get abusive or pushy. Then I tell them in definite language I am not interested. I think if one calls after 8.30 they should receive a very blunt reply, telling them to stick to family hours.

Yes, they don't usually bother me when they call during the day, and I have had some get quite pushy, usually if they do, I will ask to speak to thier manager and we "somehow" get disconnected! (: I hate it when they call on Sundays, it seems like we are always getting calls then. Thanks for your response. (:

yes, it certainly seems that way, that they cannot get the hint, either that or they simply don't care. *sigh*

No you were not rude at all , it really make me mad that there are telemareters that make others who are in the same type of biz out there and make us look bad , I do the same type of job , but it clearly states on my sites that my hours are from 9-5 CST and we are strictly held to those hours , calling people late at night does not make the comany look any more apealing and personally dealing with bills is that LAST thing i would want to hear about that late at night even if i did have that problem , its just plain rude :( Its liike bill collectors calling your job , they did that once to my husband and then they called the house a few hours later and i ripped into them and told them that if they ever wanted to get money from me they sure wasnt gonna be able to do that if my husband looses his job and if they ever did it again i would report them to their supervisor , wich apparently scares them pretty good lol lord only knows why tho ....... ~M~

No, I don't think you were rude. You were simply poining out hwta time it was and it was late. He was rude for not apologizing and ending the call.

That was the perfect answer according to me.First thing they keep on annoying people and calling up at night is just too much. You reacted normally..most of them would do the same thing if they were you.Well it is better if we not answer their calls.

I don't thik you were being rude. it was your house you were answering from. I get calls to, and alot of times I don't answer. Then there are times I answer, and tell the people that the owner took a trip and is lost somewhere. Sometimes if it's a woman, I will ask what she is wearing, and sound real perverted and they usually hang up.

If someone is calling you at 9:30 PM, and it is a stranger, and it is a nuisance call, there isn't much of a response that you could make that could justifiably be considered rude. What a putz.

Oh yeah..its so annoying to hear the phone ring when you are in your peace of mind having a goog time relaxing while the kids are in the bed. Sometimes is hard to control our imotion not to be rude when some one invaded your privacy . Well,I guest you already found the way to stop them from calling...Good luck!
