BIID (Body Integrity Identity Disoder)

Has anyone here heard of/suffered from this "newly discovered" condition? It has also been refered to as "Amputee Identity Disoder", although that is now considered somewhat outdated, as people with the affliction are not neccessarily "amputee wannabes"-their "desired" (and I use that term loosely) disability may include other such things as paralysis or blindness. Essentially, people with this condition feel as if their body image does not align with their bodily configuration; the mind does not accept the body as it is. It is similar to Gender Identity Disorder in this respect, although people with BIID often feel that perhaps a limb is "not meant to be there" or "does not belong to them", and they seek amputation as a way of reconciling the mind/body experience.Anyway, although I do not suffer from BIID myself, I have come to know others who do, and I'm simply wondering what others think of this unusual disorder. I have no problem answering further questions on the subject, but I believe I've already typed too much!I welcome any comments/questions you have regarding this.

I saw this on an episode of "Nip/Tuck."
