What do you think breeds intolerance in people?

I think besides fear of those different from us, it's The alpha male syndrome - and the fear of losing the place - moving downwards in the equation of things around oneself. Moving upwards is the elating part - that and stagnation also breeds contempt for those below you and hence also a level of intolerance. It could be anything, any or many attributes.

It is just ignorance towards life tht breeds intolerance, being an Indian you can understand this is all maya, thinking yourself different from others, we all are part of universal soul so are one.

Yes I too read the Bhagwat Gita, but being one with the Supreme seems a mighty task, as well as a simple one, but according to Krishna, it takes many births and rebirths to attain oneness. Thanks for your response!

Well, that could be it and I see your point. Some people do act that way sometimes.
