Don't understand

I guess since I've only been here for 3 days, there is a lot that I don't understand. But what is really confusing me today is two things. #1 -- I just finished posting 3 brand new topics within the past 15 minutes, yet my points only went up by ONE point instead of three. ??? Also, This morning after the earnings were updated, my (new) star that I just got last night was rated a 9. Woo-Hoo!! Then after running errands and not being on the site for 5 hours, my rating in the star goes down to an 8?!? Why?
Can someone answer these for me? Thank you in advance!!

When you post a new topic you won't get a point for it till someone comments on it. Once someone comments then you will get a point. Your rating probably went down because someone gave you a bad rating on something. I always give people a positive rating for their posts and comments to my posts. I hope this helps you understand better. If you need anything more just ask. I try to help.

Well, that makes a lot of sense about needing to get a reply first. I don't know why I thought you automatically got a point for the post. In regards to the other, I suppose it would be easy to have someone give you a bad rating if you wrote something that they did not like to hear....?

Well your star is now 9 again. I am not putting too much emphasis on the star these days. Other people are controlling that number byt rating your topics. Pranksters can even make it go down just because they have the ability. It is not a good system when you have outside people controlling it so much. You should get a point for each new discussion. I do anyway even before anyone responds. Just keep posting, making Friends, and starting discussions and all will be well.

I don't understand folks who go around giving out negative ratings! Someone would have to be practically foaming at the mouth to get one from me.. I'd rather spread cheer wherever I go.. naive yes, I'm afraid so. Anyway you don't sound like the foaming at the mouth type.. so you probably just had someone disagree with what you said, which I think is a lowdown reason for negativing someone! :)) I'll plus you as many times as I can here.

Oh that's probably it. I did have a couple of comments that were just totally my opinion, but were not in alignment with the original poster's point of view. Oh well...I'd rather voice my opinion and be open and honest instead of just agreeing with someone else for a point

First, I have noticed that your points don't go up as fast anymore when you put up a discussion and the star, people rate you on that and if someone rated you with a minus instead of a plus, you star points will go down very fast. I hope this helps somewhat.

To me it has been a mystery all along. You will see that you will get very varied answers to this post. I have tried to experiment with some of the sage advice that has been given here, but at times there is no rhyme or reason. Things usually update correctly though. I hope someone else can help you more. Happy Posting.
