I think it's time for me to do this, but I haven't tried. Any recommended resources? How do I get a domain name? What does a person need to know? There are some questions I have. Can anyone out there help?

Well hello again I have built hundreds of web sites and thousands of web page for myself and for my clients. It's a lot of fun and when done correctly it makes you laugh and giggle all the way to the bank. I use Godaddy.com to purchase domains and I try to use keywords in the domains I purchase. One of my sites is about eBooks so I bought a domain www.ebooks-with-reseller-rights.com I would not buy one with all the dashes again as it just confuses people. But you can purchase a domain for under $10.00 and you can even host your domain for about $5.00 a month. That's what I charge on my hosting site. So you can quickly be up and running, but not before you know what you want to do, what your keywords would be and how intense is your competition. Hope that helps.

My response is for someone that wants a business site (site to earn money). Some of the biggest mistakes people make when they want to get their site is they listen to alot of newbies that dont understand how things work. I have built sites for over 15 years so the information below is from a professional that has built and run thousands of websites. 1. DO NOT use any freespace like anglefire or geocities, you need to purchase real hosting on a server with your own domain name. 2. Domain Name you want to choose one that is going to be relative to your site and one that is easy to remember. I suggest namecheap.com 3. Learn more about websites and how they function and how the internet works before starting a site if thi is for business (to earn money). Research is very important and the best thing you can do before starting a site. 4. Hire a professional to help you or hire a professional to build what you want. When I say a professional I mean someone who knows how to build a site and not someone that just uses free software to build personal sites. Thats just for starters, there is alot of planning and research that needs to go into building a site before you decide to build one.

I use Geocities for my websites, and I used to code by hand but now I build the sites in Dreamweaver. Which I got from a friend. Yes, a friend. A good friend named Bit Torrent. I can't imagine ever going back to hand HTML after using Dreamweaver. It makes things so simple and takes up far less time than hand coding does.

In my opinion, angelfire.com is the best place to start if you are a beginner. It's a free web hosting site with tons of really nice options. It has a beginner mode to choose that will help you go through the process of creat a page or a site. However, I suggest you do a search on html for beginners and learn a bit before starting. This will help you greatly in learning what you are doing.

Well you'd need to know PHP or Html. You can buy a domain name and webspace at various websites like web.com or godaddy.com. You'd have to look around and see if you find anything that works for you.

Yes I can help you with everything there is to know about basic websites as I have build my own websites for the last 10 years. First... what sort of websites do you want to build? Are you serious enough about it to spend a few dollars a month on it? Or do you want to start with a website which cost you nothing? If you want one of those... I suggest that you get a free website from geocities. For software... I recommend Microsoft FrontPage or Macromedia Dreamweaver. I am using Dreamweaver. To buy a Domain... the official site is Network Solutions. They used to be very competitive, price wise, but are not anymore. There are many companies cheaper than Network Solutions. But at the same time... many of those companies use dishonest tactics... and you have to be careful. I did renew my domain name with MDWebhosting last October because they were half the price of Network Solutions... and there were no tricks attached to it. I also get them to host my website. That is the next step. Once you have purchased your domain, you need a reliable hosting service to use your domain. Hosting at MD start at $9.00 per month and that should be good enough for you to start with. What do you need to know? Heaps... most of it... you need to learn from documentation. But I'll be happy to guide you one step at a time.
