What is a good bed time for a four year old child? Mine usualy goes to bed between 8-9 depending on what is going on. So many out there just don't seem to understand (family) that it is important for him to have a regular schedule with some allowences here and there. What do you think. What time does your go to bed.

When my boys were four years old, they were in bed before 7 o'clock every night. They sometimes found it difficult to sleep if daylight hours stretched that far, but at that age, they were attending kindergarten or nursery school, so they needed their sleep. I used to go to bed quite a lot earlier than I do now as well, because I had to be up early to get their breakfas and make them ready for kindergarten. Those were the days... I loved when my kids were little. Thank you for this discussion CatEyes. It really took me back. :-)

I have seven children and they have different bed times according to age range. My children in elementary, 5 to 9 yrs old, go to bed at 8pm on school nights. My middle school student, 13 yrs, goes to bed at 9 pm. And my two high school students go to bed at 10pm. However, the weekends are more liberal. The younger ones will sometimes stay up until 10pm. They have gotten used to knowing that when they do not have school the next day, they can stay up later but it is still a quiet time. So, it is either a movie, read a book, or color/draw. They are pretty good about understanding quiet time or they go to bed. :) Most of the time, they fall asleep watching a movie and I carry them up to bed or walk them up the stairs if they are too heavy. LOL

LOL! :) Haha! Yeah, you really don't want to carry up a heavy third grader up the stairs. You might hurt your back...or somethink else! That is great that they understand quiet time that late at night, it is probabaly just because they are tuckered out! :D

My grandson goes to bed between 8 and 9 when he spends the night with us. It depends on how tired he is. Maintaining schedules is best for children.

We put our daughter to bed around 8-9 too. My husband said that is a little bit late, but I can never get her to go to bed at 7 PM. This one time she went to be at 7 PM and woke-up at 5-6 in the morning, which I was not ready to get up that early. So, it was back to the normal schedule.

my son is 5 and is usually in bed by 7, i read him a book at 7 and then set his sleep timer on his tv for like 20 minutes and that way it is shut off before 8 at the latest.

Bed Time...Bed Time...Bed Time! I really wish we didn't have to sleep. It is not that I don't like to sleep, it is just that I really don't like going to bed and waking up!! Well, I am in High School and I go to bed at 10. I have a brother in Middle School and he goes to be at 9. Then, I have brothers and sisters in elentary from ages 9-5 years old. And, they go to bed at 8. I think that it really depends on what time you get up. I think that a 4 year old should go to bed at 7 or 8. But, like I said, it depends on what happened that day, when they got up, then they are going to get up! :)

We have always homeschooled so we have been able to develop what is best for each of us. Working makes a difference so you learn to sleep so you can work alertly. We have been able to be flexible so that we can sleep when tired and alert when we need to be. A standard schedule would indeed require a set bedtime and regular time to be awake!! I tend to be in bed about 10 to 11 at night fairly regularly!!

A child needs to have at least 8 hours of restful sleep and this can be achieved only if a proper sleep schedule is maintained, 10 pm to 6 am would be ideal

My youngest is almost 10 and I would send her to bed between 9 and 9.30. It's usually 9.30. But I hear young children out on the street until all hours. I don't know how they can get up for school in the mornings, and when they're out till dark on a different street to their own, I wonder what their parents are doing and are they even thinking about their children.

My daughter who is 4 next month goes to bed between 8-9pm too. I think that is personal choice as long as there is some kind of routine for the child. The main reason my daughter goes at that time is because I have a 14mth old who goes to bed around 7:30pm and by the time I sort him out it is that time for MissB.
