Have you ever liked an anime yet hate the main character?

Oooh sooo many times I have! I won't name any here as not to be flamed at but I have hated many main characters. There are also animes that I just make me cringe because of the main character. Reasons why I don't like some of them: They can't think, they act dumb, think they can have anything they want, they are too "lucky", and they complain too much. I like other characters in the anime and they keep me from backing away from the anime entirely.

I never did warm up to Hideki, the main male character in Chobits. I still don't know why, he just rubbed me the wrong way. Love the series, just don't like Hideki. That's the only one I can think of off the top of my head.... I don't watch much shoujo, but if I did, I'm sure I wouldn't be able to stand most of the main characters.

I think that Hideki is the best type of personality for Chobits. He's the shy, lonely and lazy boy that makes Chi fall in love with. Just think about it for a moment, if Hideki was not what he is now, many of the scenes would be borring or could be forseen.

Most of the scenes were predictable anyway. The thing with Hideki is he was so much of a caricature that it becomes ludicrous - since none of the other characters are. It makes him stand out, and not in a good way.

I can't think of such an anime right now. I believe that if I don't like the main character, then I don't like the anime. Maybe I don't like him/her at the beginning but as more things happen to the character I learn to like him. I guess all of you are the same, because if you wouldn't like the main charcter I don't think that you would continue watching the series

TRUE! Because the reason the creator of the story made the story exist is to deliver it through the main character mainly. If you don't like the main character than you might be missing something there. I really don't like the main character of Prince Of Tennis, that's why i can't stand watching (AND DON'T WATCH) that anime.

There are a lot of anime main characte that are stupid.. I hate all of them... stupid character turn boring the anime...

She doesn't have to like the characters. She can like the storyline or the theme to like the anime. These are people's opinions.
