To be a cool mom or not?

My 12 year old daughter and I have a close relationship and have many things in common. One being music. Recently I learned that a band we both enjoy will be playing at a local venue. I have contacted the place this band will be playing at and they do allow kids her age to attend in the company of their parent and with proof of parentage, ie: a birth certificate. What are your thoughts on taking her to go see them? Am I stepping over the "good parent line" by taking a 12 y/o to a concert? Is this inappropriate or could this be something special for the two of us?

If it is a place that is safe then go for it. You didn't mention the name of the group, if it is anything extreme like metal or thrash, she might get hurt. Having a bond like that with a child is awesome and as long as the place says she can go, I don't see any problem being 'the cool mom'.

She's probably mature enough to handle it, and if the place is not to your liking or gets too rowdy, you can always leave. Explain to her that you'll be going for maybe 20 minutes and see how it goes. Many entertainers get into places before they are old to be customers, and they usually act more mature just to prove they can be reliable. I've walked out of a movie or two with my kids, and they've actually been relieved to know that you can always make a new plan if the original plan doesn't work out.
