Hit and Run Drivers - What Could they be Thinking?

Last week a body of a 50 year old man was found dead along the road about 30 miles from my home. He was the victim of a hit and run. I have to wonder how anyone could just leave a body along the roadside after they hit them. What are these people thinking?

I know what you mean. To me, if anyone did that they can't be much of a human being, can they? How could they live with the guilt? Or do they even have any to begin with?
I think people that do this kind of thing needs some professional help but of course if caught will be behind bars hopefully.

I know it makes no sense at all. If I hit someone, even if I had stopped it would be hard to deal with, but to just drive away and leave him lying there is unthinkable.
