Is it true, that you have to let go of your love so it comes back to you

I have heard this many times from a friend or colleagues even from my love itself.. that when you let a man/woman free to do whatever they want when in relationship or affair he or she will come back to you only if he loves you so what, should i be ready to accept that if he does'nt come back i shud live my life like nothing changed??

I'd like to put it this way.. "Whats fated to be yours will be yours no matter what." I think that is better. =)
