Where would you go, to live the simple life?

I know two different people whose ideal "simple life" is to move to Paris, hang out by the river, and drink wine (and eat bread and cheese). They'd probably do something artsy and sell it, to make a few bucks. Sounds romantic to them, sounds stupid to me. I think I'd love a country life- large plot of land, some animals, my own gardens (one for food, one for flowers).. maybe I'd become a novelist, and sell my books. And sell eggs from my chickens, on the side. LOL Of course this takes work to start up, right? Is there really a "simple" life? And if there is, where? And how come we're not all living it??

Your idea of a simple life sounds alot like mine. I'd love about 10 acres...1/2 for gardens and the other 1/2 for trails through the forest for hikeing and 4 wheelers. To make money I would have day trips in from the city....where kids could come spend the day have a small bonfire and roast hot dogs and marshmallows.Silly huh?

That is a good question, one that my family and I are trying to figure out. Tired of living in AZ even though it is soo gorgeous out here. The crime rate seems too high and the school system is not very good.
