Anyone ever sued their landlord

have anyone ever sued there landlord for a slip and fall? or know of anyone who haved? WHat was the out come of it? How long did the case last?

I haven't ever filed a lawsuit against my landlord but I would love to. My lil sister father sister sued her landlord because she fell and twisted her whole leg. It took about four months of investigation and she was awarded about ten thousand dollars for pain and suffering and negligence to provide a safe enviornment for tenants.

I live in building, its a house with two apartments. There is only one entrace and that is the same exit as well. It is now winter over where i am. The steps are very slippery from ice and ice. But there used to be two post where you can hold on to. But one of them have been broken since Sept of 2006. So because of that..I was falling one day there is nothing for you to hold on to or support you because of that i broke my arm. Instead of him spending 5-10 mins of his time to fix it...he lays it along the porch.Could I sue him for negligence and pain and suffering.....Also would pictures help...and also people who seen it has been broken for a long time...such as the mail carrier and other tenants?
