Women: Getting Your Tubes Tied

I am looking into this in the near future after my last baby is born (due in September.) This will be child number 3 for me. That will total out my family and I will not want any more children after that. I am aware that getting your tubes tied is a very common procedure and the statisitcs of women who have had this done is very high and sucessful, both for blocking conception and the safety of the surgery and recovery. Who has had their tubes tied? Was in fact as easy as I have heard about? Did anything go wrong with your situation, or someone you know about?

MY EXPERIENCE: I had my tubes tied after my third child. Didn't have problems with the surgery, as they did it when they delivered her via c-section. However, I started having problems after that. Pain during my cycles that I had never experienced, moodiness, just weird stuff. About 4 or 5 years after I had the procedure I started having hot flashes on top of everything else. From what I understand the blood flow was impeded to my ovaries (or ovary) and caused me to start early menopause in my early thirties. They put me on birth control to keep my cycle regulated (I would go upwards to six months without a period), to help with moodiness, pain during my cycle, etc. From the research I did I discovered that it is common when women get their tubes cut, tied, and burned (as they are generally done these days) to end up having impeded circulation to their ovaries and over time damage causing the woman to start menopause early. I will be on those pills for decades, until I guess the doctor decides that I am old enough to handle the "change." Good luck.

Wow. I know it such a common precedure anymore but I know there are still risks. What a pain to have to go on birth control too. Thank you!
