How to achieve financial freedom

I know that these days, there are more opportunities than ever to generate income from many sources and eventually become financially free. I thought that those of you who have experienced this may be able to give the rest of us who desire to get there some good advice. I recently started working in the corporate world (after graduating college), but I know I want more than a "steady job" for the rest of my life (which is unrealistic anyway). I am considering starting businesses and investing (I have some base income to start with). Please share any experiences and or advice. Thanks.
