Couch Potato?

How many hours of television do you watch, daily? Have you heard all these new 'studies' that say in order to keep your brain power, you have to watch less than an hour a day? I personally think it's rubbish, but what do I know? I usually watch anywhere from 2 to 4 hours of tv a day, and only in the evenings, because I work during the day. I have my 'shows' that I watch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, but other than that, I'm a movie junkie. Anyone else?

I am more of a 'computer potato', lol! I really don't watch that much American TV anymore. Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays are my main nights now. I used to watch at least 1-2 hours a night, and some in the day, but lately there just isn't that much on. I mostly watch British programs that I find on the internet. But I spend most of my free time online, especially here at Mylot, typing away. *laugh* I don't know what kind of studies anyone has done on how many hours in front of the computer might be bad for you mentally, lol. that probably is really subjective, considering that it would depend on what a person is _doing_ online. they could be playing mindless games 8 hours a day, or they could be studying, or looking at literature. But the same goes for TV.. I mean, you could be watching informative documentaries and leraning things, or you could be watching mindless shows.. either way, you could be learning something, though. ^_^ (I don't mean you personally, by the way.. just people in general! ^_^ )

Me too, since I've gotten an Internet connection I spend way more time online than watching TV. I watch TV less than three hours a day, mostly news and sporting events. And I have certain shows I watch-- ER, CSI, Lost, 24, etc. Generally I think too much TV is not good for me, I just become lazy and then wonder why I haven't gotten done other things I want to do...

I watch way too much TV. I know it but it's a great escape and very relaxing way to forget about having to go back to that awful place they call Walmart everynight. hehehe. I probably wouldn't watch as much as I do though if it wasn't for my hubby. He's always been a tube junkie. We pretty much watch it the entire waking hours we're home.

Ahhhh, you work for Hell*Mart... lol... that explains a lot. I don't know what working for them in Canada is like (it seems a lot less terrible here) but I know quite a few people in the US who work for them and they HATE it with a passion.

That's me - I hate it with a passion like I've never hated anything before. If only I didn't have to have 3rd shift!

I am a TV junkie and I watch it whenver I get a chance to, but if there isn't anything else good to watch, I just turn it off. So, I'll say I watch about 9-12 hours durning the week and whenever I could. But, in the weekends, it is less than that.

We actually don't watch tv. We watch more movies, mainly animated as i have a four year old who loves Blues Clues. The only thing i might miss about having cable, certainly not the bill, but the history channel, and discovery channel. We were never ones for sitcoms or reality series. But i have also heard that for every tv in your house your IQ is lowered by up to 10 points.

Well, so much for my brain power. No wonder I don't feel as smart as I was told I was when I was younger. =p I work full-time so obviously I'm not in front of the tv all the time. However, if my husband is home, the television is always on. Usually on weekends when he goes to bed in the morning(he works nights), I'll try to turn the television off for a while just to get some quiet. As for actually watching it (as opposed to just having it on in the background) I suppose I don't do that too much. Mostly I watch movies, though now that anime has made it's way to American tv, there are a few series I'll watch when I catch them on. There aren't any specific shows that I watch every time now. I'm one of those people whose favorite shows all went off the air, and I've never managed to find too many new ones I like. I hate to think how much brain power my husband has lost though. He's glued to the thing. Scary.
