The muses where supposedly the 7 daughters of Zeus the king of the Gods in Greek Mythology,in case you aren't familiar with ancient mythology. Anyway they serve to inspire mankind individually to produce their artistic expression, regardless of what type of artist the human was an actor, a writer, a poet or playwrite,a dancer, basically any artistic expression that is poured with passion from the human soul out into the world. So a writer is also charmed by the muse.
Have you heard what Steven King says about the reason that he writes stories?
He says that it kind of unfolds in his gut and he feels compelled to bring the story out into printed words. He gets such a charge telling the story to himself that it almost writes itself while he enjoys the story and the telling of it!
I am the same type of writer. I write songs, poetry, magazine style articles, essays, and short stories. I love to write and I have finally found venues to get what I am writing published, which I find exhilirating, there is one huge drawback though. Whenever I receive postive feedback and/or my articles and strories receive results that are quantifyable it drives me to go back and WRITE, and WRITE! Sometimes it feels like an addiction, or a fever. It is time consuming. For periods of up to a month or two my muse will go away and leave me in peace. And I recharge my mental and spiritual batteries and then I am off again! She is a demanding lover! But I love her!
