Sprouting

I've recently begun my own little urban sprout garden on my kitchen counter. It's amazing how easy it is to sprout all sorts of different types of seeds and beans. And with sprouts you get a plethora of nutrients and things you can't really get from other foods. They're also a great source of protein. All you need is some seeds and a jar and some sort of mesh to strain them. Soak the seeds overnight to prep them and then drain the water and rinse at least twice a day draining the water after so as not to drown the seeds. In about six days, depending on the type of seed, you'll have delicious fresh sprouts to cook or put in salads or on sandwhiches. Of course, this is a very basic explanation and there are different techniques for different types of seeds, this is pretty much how it works with most. I sprouted alfalfa and plan on doing some lentils next. For more information on sprouting simply google it and you'll find many different resources. I've also been doing a bit of research on growing different greens from seeds, all you need is about an inch of organic soil. Maybe I'll start doing that as well. It's amazing what you can grow indoors. I never imagined having fresh foods like this growing in my house while there's three feet of snow outside.

The wonder of nature. Isn't it just great to see plants grow, especially when conditions outside are so savage. Bulbs are already coming up outside here in the UK and it is still January!

Wow, that's great. I just love to check on my sprouts and see how they're growing. I'm really impressed at how easy it is to grow them. Plants are simply wonderful.

I have never done that and didn't even think about it. But your description sounds so easy, fun and it is inspiring. So I will try to do that myself and let you know how it goes.
