the real world - Whats it like out there?

January 27, 2007 5:45pm CST
Scary times ahead. I have been applying for jobs, this may not seem like a big deal to most of you but i've been living the easy life as a student for the past 6 years. Do i really have to join the real world? whats it like out there? i'm sure having money is nice, but does this mean the days of playing poker and drinking beer till 3 am on a wednesday is over? I knew this day had to come eventually but i need some reassuring words, is the real world as big and scary as it looks?

playing in spare time is fine but with responsibility comes less time to throw away time is the most precious commodity you have.

i don't have to worry about getting a job, i was clever and picked a masters in which there are more job opportunities than people to fill the vacancies

i don't say it's a scary world out here. it will be something new for you i am sure. after being laid back and relaxed for many years, entering a new world for you will be something new. take it as a challenge then. see if you can still have fun even when working. but i tell you, in this new world, you'll find so many challenges along the way. challenges which can make you into a more responsible and a better person. so, take the challenge now and see for yourself.

Have fun for as long as you live and enjoy it while you can. We only have one life so why not live it. There people in this world that make a living out of enjoying themselves so go for it I say.

yah its really a scary world out there especially if you'll live in your own, away from your family starting you own life and thinking some serious matters. Studying is a lot of fun you dont have to worry for anything, you'll just study, think of your home work, your clasmmates, your friends and of course all those night outs every friday night. You dont have to worry that i have this scary big boss who yells at me everytime he sees my flaws or give me a tiger look when im late or even taking a snooze around idle hours. But come to think of it either way it's the way it used to be, the reason why you are studying it's because you have to work for your future, and have to accept the fact that you cant defend on your parents forever. There will come a certain time that you have to face the real world out there wheter it is scary or not. It's true that the world is too scary beyond but it's up to you if you'll be scared or not just be brave enough to face it because thats the challenge of the so called life.

Well I would like to be able to tell you it is all sunshine and roses out here...but the truth is it's not. You have to fight and work and scrape for every cent. Then there are bills to pay and rent to pay. If you have kids...it can be hard too. If you are hoping for an easy ride..you seldom get one...but if you do..then yo should be extremely happy...

With being adult brings the responsibility of your decisions. You need to make responsible decisions to achieve your goals and accept the actions and their results. If you waste your time or effort you will push your goals out and possibly not accomplish them. If you work hard and achieve your goals you will have much more fun and accomplishment sets you up for more responsibility. I am not saying dont have fun but budget time for everything and plan your money expenditure as well being sure to save for short and long term goals. Good Luck to you!!

The real world is not scary as you think. Your collegiate life had prepared you for your new adventure outside of school. You may experience a little adjustment to your new crowd at work and you'll need extra effort to have self disciple regarding your previous partying and drinking and you might need extra effort to work beyond your time limit meaning overtime work. But the reward is great because you will enjoy spending your first salary (the fruit of your labor)

welcome to the jungle pal! :) just kidding. actually, it's not a total 180 degrees shift if you're gonna be having a regular job, it's not like that. it's more like adjusting to a new time frame that's why it's like something different from what we have grown to know. but you'll get used to it, and it's not the end of your good days, in fact, it's just beginning because when you have your own money, you go wherever you want and get whatever you want. it's really not as scary as it looks likes. it's a matter of adjusting and then getting used with having responsiblities and balancing it with your personal wants. good luck pal. :)

It's hard getting out in the real world at first but I'm sure you'll manage. You just have to re-adjust your schedule so you can become an adult with you're full responsibilities. No, It's not as big and scary as it looks once you learn how the world works. It can be scary in the beginning, but eventually, you'll understand how it operates. Good luck!

responsibility is a part of life. at first, you'll think it's hard but as you go on in life, you'll have it as a habit.

dont be scared. the real world makes you strong through the problems but those problems will never give it to you if you can't handle it. just be true to yourself and have faith to God.

Well if you can define it as 'big and scary' then you are halfway there to understanding your very special position in it. Hard to believe life as a student was easy but I suppose compared to being someone's employee, apprentice, novice or assistant to the big wigs, yeah it seems kinda anxiety-raising. The world is tough especially on young people lacking experience in the field they wish to discover. If they want to be paid they have to have been training for this or something. Working everyday for someone else is not fun, I stopped after giving 27 years to various employers. I am now entrepreneurial and not as rich as I could be but less pressed that someone is having a vacation because i work for them and what they don't pay me goes right to their vacation fund. No thanks, but hey I am 40 your not and life is awaiting you ! Go get it !

you might get a bit of a culture shock, and you might realize that doing the actual job is far different from just learning it in textbooks. but once you have adjusted, i'm sure you'll like the idea of working, especially because it means you get to spend your own money, and you can spend it in whatever way you wish.

I want to know that answer, too. Im a fresh graduate and Im starting to apply for a job. Actually, i miss the school days. I miss hanging out with my friends at the coffee shop and spending the day at the mall after school. But since I already graduated, I want to look on the positive side of this so-called "real world".
