i think there is no player who can challenge the precision of roger federer ,only nadal can a distant close of conquering him ,but was only came good against him in french open finals,as there in any player in tennis circuit who can challenge him for number one spot or he is simply the most complete tennis player ,who doent have any fault or error in his game

He can't be seen as best ever just yet, but if he continues dominating the sport the way he is i think its only a matter of time before he is classed as the greatest. We can only hope that a few of the younger guys coming through like Nadal, Murray, Djokovic or Gasquet can get up to his level and make it more competitive for him

Right now, he is the best. but, not all time. I would say Pete Sampras who had been 1st in rank for 8 years. He won so many grand slams and so many championship. Roger federer is getting close there but not yet beat him.

but federer has been more consistent in winning grandslams whereas for sampras the majority of his grandslams title cam from wimbeldon but for federer its been every grandslam

He is definetely the best right now. But that doesn't mean that he is the best of all time. Even if he breaks the record of Pete Sampras, it doesn't mean he will be the best. It will just mean he is the most successfull. I think that during the reign of Pete, the competion was stronger. The quality of players (like Agassi and Becker) was better. It is fair to say that Federer is among the greatest of all time. As for who can compete with him, I personally think that Andy Roddick will never regain the 1st spot. Andy is a good server and that's it. His style is not working at all with Federer and it seems that he can't change it. As for Nadal, he is the king of clay. That's his field. His quality on clay is much better than on hard courts. He may deprive Federer from a Rolan Garross title, but he will not be number 1 (at least in the near future). I think if Marat Safin was fit, he would have been the best competitor for Federer.
