What do you do when you buy a used item that doesn't work properly?

I just bought a used 27 inch tv. Now, granted, I did get it for very little ($15), but they said it worked perfectly. I guess that depends on how you look at it. It turns on and all that, but the buttons can be really tweeky, like sometimes the volume button will bring up the menu tab etc. Also, the bottom fourth of the screen is discolored. It makes everything a greenish color. Really it's not that big of a deal, and it was only $15 bucks, but why do people have to lie?

maybe they just really wanted to get rid of it badly and didnt think that you would buy it if there was something wrong with it! LOL my friend lied about this BEAUTIFUL table he was going to get for us. oh my goodness! it was missing screws and it was basically that lamanent plastic stuff, and if you set a peice of paper on it it'd prolly have fallen over!

Yep, yep, that's probably exactly right. Ah well, it's bigger than our other one and has the rca connections I needed. That's kind of "special" lol that your friend would pull that on you... Did you guys actually get stuck with it then? Thanks for your comment!

People lie to get you to buy their stuff. They don't care if you are happy in the end because they already have your money. I also think you get what you pay for. I would never expect to get a decent tv for $15. Plu in your case working perfectly probabaly has different meanings for you and them. For me howver, I tell the truth and my husband doesn't care for that. HE is of the mind that if the customer doesn't ask then why should I tell. I hate that motto. I guess I am always thinking boaut customer service being a huge thing and to me that means you tell the truth and make sure the buyer knows what they are buying.

Yeah, you're right, it was cheap, and to be honest I didn't expect a whole lot for the money. But, to be told it worked perfectly made me expect a bit more out of it. I guess some people must have different versions of "works perfectly" but it sure seems like it should be the same across the board. If I told someone it worked perfectly, that means absolutely nothing is wrong with it. I'm like you, in that, I like to be honest about what I'm selling. I want to outfront let someone know if anything is wrong with it. I tend to be honest to a fault, and I guess it's foolish for me to expect the same of other people. Thanks a lot for your response.

You are dealing with people who ache to make fast bucks. At first, they'll show you that the item works perfectly, but golly, usually after using the item for a week or two, you'll find one defect after another coming out. You complain about this to them, and you'll just get a shrug. There are some though who will tell you to bring the item back with the receipt of payment. They'll do some repairs; however, very soon something wrong with the item is bound to be cropping up once again. Best to buy those appliances brand new.
