Why does a lot of people want to get a tattoo or a body piercing?

Don't know...but I guess it's a "cool" thing... For some reason, it looks attractive. I had it once and I know that, "Oouch!", it hurts! Still, I think people are really crazy about it specially in the US.

Some people think it makes them look "cool" or "tough".. I think it really shows insecurity in how they feel about themselves and the tattoos give them something they can feel good about?+

i'm definitely not insecure, & i love body piercings & tattoos. i can say this as a fact, they will never go "out of style", because to most people who get it for the right reasons [not so others will "think they are cool"] it represents a lot more than just ink on their skin & a hole through their bodies.

i´ve got one. on my upper i got big tribal. but sorry i have made it 9 years ago and i haven´t got any hurtings. i like body piercings to look or to play with but i wouldn´t pierce a hole through my body. in my thoughts that would be hurt.

I think its a trend. Small tattoos are okay but some people go way overboard with it.

Personally, i don't like it at all. Maybe those who have had it knows why they had it done to them. Like you, why did you decide to have it that time?

i got my piercings because i personally find it attractive onme & other people. it doesn't hurt to me, & if someday i decide i don't like it, i can take it out. simple as that!

Because some people express theirselves in that way. They felt that their hip, cool and funky. It gives them the inner energy which is psychological as they think. For them it is an art of expression of their personality.

I dont think i understand why people wanna do these kinds of things to their bodies. But maybe they do it because they look cool sometimes or it reminds them of someone or something. Other then that i think its not smart beacause ithink it would hurt your body.

Tatooes are form of art, the are expressions of the one who wears it..not all us may understand why others do piercing and tattoo,,,just bear with them they're just experessing themselves...=)

i have my ears, lip, & nose pierced. though i don't have a tattoo yet, i plan on getting them soon. i've never felt it was the "cool thing to do", i just think it's a personal preference. it's not something you should rush into or do for someone else, but i love them.
