Ok, I have made up my mind...I am going to try sushi. I actually decided this a month ago and I still haven't done it. I am so scared to try it. Any suggestions for my first time? I know it sounds silly...but I really want to try it and have a good experience.

There is sushi and then there is sushi. For a beginer I would suggest a California Roll. Not what the Japanese call sushi but a good starter. Not scary at all. I think you should go for Maki since they are rolled and you can't see what's in them. Spicy tuna roll would be good or salmon, because those are flavors that you are already accustomed to. Halibut is also mild. Mackeral is much stronger in flavor so maybe dont do that. Chef's Choice or Omakase is not a good idea as it may be too exotic for a first time. You may also like scallops, vegetarian or some with fried egg. Go easy on yourself!!! It's also low in calories so if you love it,you've found yourself a low cal snack.

ooo...I like the idea of not knowing what is inside. That is my style! Thanks so much for the info. Just knowing this makes is less scary. lol I had no idea you could get it with fried egg either. Thank you!

Why are you so afraid of it? Sushi taste very nice, and they're healthy, they also low in calories, so they won't make us fat. Well, for the first time, if you don't like spicy, then don't eat wasabi. It's very hot! You should try some sweet ginger along with your sushi and eat them together. Also, if you like sweet things, try inari sushi, it is very yummy. Hope you enjoy your first exprience =)

Wow, you are brave. I would never try it. But, this will sound weird but it works. Pinch your nose closed and close your eyes the first bite. You will taste nothing, but get the feel in your mouth. If it is comfortable, then open your eyes and release your nose and go for it. Are you laughing? It works really. Give it a try. Sit in the corner, so nobody sees you and thinks that you are weird or something. :)

why are you scared. sushi is just food and its not gonna kill you. you should go to a quality sushi restaurant with friends. also you should try the california roll. i think these are good for beginning sushiers like yourself. they have no fish and are made of seaweed, rice, avocado, and cucumber.

I actually tried it a week ago. Since the first time trying it, Ive had it on two other occassions. So like 3 times in a week. I was scared to try it cause I heard that certain sea food like scallops or oysters contain toxins like mercury because they act as a filter for the sea, so some seafood isnt the cleanest. However, depending on what kind you have , its fairly safe, as long as the chefs hands are clean and the food is stored properly, the temperature is important. Its cool once you figure out how to use the chopsticks , I got it on my second try.

The best sushi for a beginner is the california roll. crab, avocado, and cucumber wrapped in white rice. It only has a little raw fish to start you out with...the more you eat you're likely to try different things just to see if you like them.

me i never did eat sushi ever before but it doesnt mean that i am afraid to try it its just dont come in into my way, why are you afraid, do you have seafoods allergy?if no then why not, just dont make it as a big deal and you wont know until your done.it is like injection that you will see the neddle and close your eyes until you dont feel anything and you hear someone say, you are done.

sushi - california sushi is made with imitation crab
Why are you afraid to try it? Is it the thought of raw fish? There are so many kinds of sushi that you don't have to do the raw fish thing. There is no way I'm eating raw fish. but I like sushi. I like the ones with avacados and english cucumber and imatation crab. these are the inside out with the vegetable wrapped in seaweed then the rice with Toasted Sesame Seeds.

Sushis are very good. Actually, it's one of my favorite foods in world. It is a Japanese cuisine. It is like dimsum for the chinese. I really love them. You should try it. Sushis has a wide varieties or flavors. Check it out on japanese buffets, you will love it. It has fresh healthy stuff into it, so there is nothing to be afraid of.
