Ok, I have had to get glasses. I'm not happy about it. They drive me crazy. And I think I look like a dork. My question is...When I have them on, I find myself looking "around" them rather than through them. I've had them for several months and I'm still doing it. How can I stop doing that???

My first comment is that you DEFINATELY do not look like a dork! One of the reason you are probably trying to look around the glasses is that you are still conscious about them being on and as you get more comfortable with the idea of wearing them, you will stop this habit. To look at "dork pictures',just look at the old schoolbook annuals from the fifties and sixties as the frames then had no flair or style like yours do.

First of all with glasses you do not look like a dork in the picture and I know they are hard to get adjusted to. while surfing through my lot yesterday, I came upon a link about eye excersise programme. may be you would like to have a look at it, I joined it and it does have some good excersises. I tried to find the link again but sorry I will get back to you once I get it. May be you can see on some page, its rebuild your vision something. I have signed up for the free tutorial and it looks good.

Because you hate them so much you are so conscious of them. I ued to be the same. When I smiled one cheek would touch the frame more than the other so I would constantly bend them, usually until they broke. I have never liked wearing them and now I choose not to. Although I am slightly blind I prefer it to wearing them and luckily my eyes have not deteriorated that much. I find wearing them all the time makes my eyes worse. So really I am no good with any advise, because I am just as bad as you. Although, have you thought of contact lenses instead. I am sure though that once you forget about wearing them your brain will switch off from them. Good luck ;~)

Ah, you look so lovely with your glasses. How would you say you look like a dork? That glasses looked like it fits on you just perfect! You should see me with the glasses. lol Well, up to now, I still feel uncomfortable about wearing glasses. Therefore, most of the time I took it off. Have you tried using a contact lens?

Thank you for saying I don't look like a dork, lol. I haven't tried contacts becuz it kinda freaks me out to stick something in my eye like that, but I might give them a try! Thanks for your response! Have a great day!

First of all you don't look like a dork. I was the same when I started wearing glasses (although I just wear them for the pc and reading, etc) but I like wearing them now. I also notice that at work people take me more seriously when I have my glasses on - strange but true! Are you sure your glasses fit you properly? Maybe they need adjusted a little. I'm just saying this because I don't know how I would look "around" mine rather than through them! Do you mean you lift them up or lower them when you are looking at stuff?

I don't touch the glasses to look around them, I usually will tilt my head back and look under them...I can't stop myself from doing it and it's driving me crazy!!! Thank you for saying I don't look like a dork, I appreciate that, it makes me feel a little better cuz I think I look weird in them, but it's probably just because I'm not used to them. I'm pretty sure they fit good, they don't fall off my face or anything....

You don't look like a dork. I had this problem too, and I just ditched my glasses and never turned back. My vision is lousy to begin with, and glasses didn't improve it, so I just stopped using them. I'm doing just fine without them.

I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one doing this, lol...I thought it was just me being a ding dong, lol. I guess I will try some contacts...I really don't think I'm going to be able to put something in my eye like that, but I'll give it a shot! Thank you for your response!

You look great though. Even I have got glasses and hate to put it on. I just use it during study and movies in theatres. Other times I just ignore it. But you need to use it inorder to keep your power constant or you wanna lower it. Else it would increase if you strain too much..

if you don't like the way you appear with eyeglasses, consult with your optometrist about contact lenses. i bet you can never look around those and you would not look like a dork too.

I have the same experience with you when i had to start wearing glasses at the age of 15. I was in high school going to college then so i was really embarrassed to wear glasses because I felt dorky and nerdy. I would wear them only during my classes but once outside, I would take them off. I did this for a while but then my eye doctor told me that this would not solve any problem and in fact it would even make the grade of my eyes worse or higher. Then she recommended me to wear contact lens if i were really uncomfortable with glasses. Since then, I have been wearing them and have even tried the colored ones to highlight my eyes. I know contact lens may look painful or gross because you have to really put it inside your eyes but in reality, it's not. It's clean and safe and you wont have to worry about your glasses already. One alternative you can choose is, you can find a pair of glasses that would really suit you, you can consider the size and shape of the frame, the color, etc. Im sure you will be able to find a perfect one to suit you so you will be more confident in wearing them. Good luck!

i ve had glasses since forever now, initially i had this problem too, even now i have a habit to bend down look "over" my glasses (like old men do..lol), but i feel the solution could be the kind of frame you choose. having a metallic frame like yours can be distracting, i mean.. you can constantly "see" the frame around your eyes and you tend to look outside it. probably, you could try the rimless glasses, the advantage of that frame is that it will kinda "dissolve" in your view and maybe with time it will help you in getting rid of this habit! try it! and also make sure the angle of your frame is perfect, if it isnt what it should be, you will have problems. take care!

Haveyou considered getting contac lenses? I know that when I wear my glasses, which is once every 6 months probably, the frames seem like an obstacle blocking my view so it is difficult not to try to look around them. You might also try getting frames with larger places for the lenses so that you are not distracted by the rims.

Stephanie, you so do not look like a dork. You are a very lovely lady. I know a lot of people have mentioned using contact lenses. But I'm like you--eeewwww. Talk to your doctor about glasses that don't have the frames around the lenses, or only have the frames at the top. They're like not having glasses on at all. They are incredibly light weight, and they aren't distracting like regular glasses. Good luck with this.

That is actually good for your eyes in a sense it exercises them when you find your eyes getting tired you'll see it is easier to look through them As for poking your eye out its not as hard as you think

I wore glasses for years. I had the hardest time with them too. Something that helped me was while I was at home putting a pirate patch (don't laugh)on one eye to force the other eye to focus through the glasses. When you feel comfortable I would look into getting contacts b/c that is another option. I know glasses at times can lower a self image and contacts can really help. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
