World Economic Forum or World Social Forum?

Leaders, businessmen, and other notable people attended the WEF in Davos, Switzerland. People in the grassroots will have their own voices heard through the WSF in Nairobi, Kenya. Between the two, which should be given greater importance? Why?

Kudos to you for raising this item. :) With the World Social Forum being rooted in India, I am amazed that not one of our Indian readers has bothered to respond. Of course I am surprised that this has also been ignored by the Europeans, and I suppose one or two Americans have heard of the World Social Forum. The World Economic Forum, may be a total turn off, mentally but it is dissapointing that we cannot discuss thing that have some importance to the global situation. I see The World Social Forum as akin to the cavalry coming over the distant hill, at the eleventh hour. Perhaps just too late this time . ? lol

Thanks for responding, I've been waiting for it several days ago. Perhaps the reason why nobody bothered to answer is that the World Social Forum is not as popular as the World Economic Forum... or maybe none really bothered to see the difference between the two. I agree with you that both events have been organized at the eleventh hour though are important venues for raising global concern. My primary concern is on whose voices are heard, those in Davos or those in Kenya. Obviously,we expect to hear from big people who attended the World Economic Forum and have their opinions documented.

The World Economic Forum wants or needs no input from the grassroots people. It seeks no media attention. It would rather there were no publicity at its conventions. It is a meeting of the powerful and greedy who just want to exploit every opportunity their power will present for them. Humanity is an inconvenience to be avoided which detracts from profit. The World Social Forum is our only real hope for a change in the political structure that bows to Corporate power. It will take a few more years to really develop its voice, the basic structures are there and we need to do all we can to raise awareness of this hope for the future. There will come a time when action is required, of that I have no doubt.
