MUSICALS are back! Old or new, choose your favorite!

I just saw RENT the other night and I was fascinated! I thought musicals, like MGM's old ones, were dead! However, I still enjoy Yul Brynner in the orignal THE KING AND I and other musical films. Which is yours and explain why.

I do like the movie version of The King and I, a real classic :) Also Calamity Jane and most Doris Day movies (I know, I know - that dates me!) and Elvis Presley movies were the best - not musicals as such but lots of music. BUT I LOVE the rock operas of the 70s - Hair, and Jesus Christ, Superstar. Also liked Evita and The Rocky Horror Show in the 80s (I think) but the 70s was my era.

There are so many good ones to choose from. But, I think I will go with "Sound of Music." It was very touching, and a true story.
