An EYE FOR AN EYE. Is this the only solution??????

An eye for an eye this is what todays people believe in. that you need to take it in your own hand if you want to solve any problem.
BUT wouldnt that make the whole world BLIND if everyone follows this policy. WHy people think this is the best policy to solve problems????Just WHy. Hasnt Gandhiji told if some one hits you on your one cheek offer your other cheek to him also.
But why no one follows it.
An eye for an eye is this the only solution to solve our problems??????

People of old used this principle to regulate the punishment for wrong doings. Man has a natural tendency to overdo it. The natural reaction is to kill or do more harm much more that the harm done. You don't have to kill the person just because he stole something from you. Punishment must be equal of in proportion to the crime done, hence an eye for an eye or a tooth for tooth. Later on it was understood to be a principle of revenge (lex talionis) which must not be the case. Jesus Christ taught the principle of turning the other cheek as a way of solving disputes in relationship but it is hardly followed. An eye for an eye is never the solution.

It's really a good question to make. I try to explain as better as I can my answer. I think that eye4eye is not a best solution to make but it'sn t worrest solution. It sepends by solution. Here in Italy it's calls "Legge del taglione" . Thanks to start discussion!
