A lot of attention has been drawn over the last few years to additives in food and the way they might be affecting the behaviour of children. I think there are a lot of reasons for bad behavior in children. The possibility of additives in food is only one. What do you think? Im only asking as my friend is on her way down to me and her 11 yr old son is comming with her. I feel awfull but I get very agitated when he is around as hes into everything and drives my dog nuts and we cant even have a chat as hes constantly interrupting. Could it be simplly down to his diet.

I doubt very much that food additives have an effect on most children behaviour. I think the parents are responsible for for their behaviour. Before I took my children anywhere, I used to tell them they were not to touch anything, and they were not to interrupt an adult conversaion. Most times they adherred to my warning, and I must say, I was proud to take them out with me, as they never let me down.

I don't envy you having that child visiting you right now. I think I would have said I was having an early night.
I don't believe that bad behaviour in children can be attributed solely to diet. Half the things that they're saying has negative effects on kids behaviour I remember having when I was a kid and I certainly wasn't hyper or wild by any means. Skittles is one of the things they say can make children hyper. I've noticed that my children get giddy after eating these, but they wouldn't misbehave because they know I won't tolerate it.
I think a child's upbringing and the control their parents have over him/her has an awful lot more to do with behaviour than the foods they eat.
