Is there a difference between the terms "deaf" and "Deaf"? If so, what is it and how did it come to be? And what about "hard of hearing"? I'm very interested in this topic and want to know more.

I take an asl class and we've been discussing stuff like that, some people can be rude, but then again its just that they don't know so unfortunelately you just have to make them aware and be the bigger person. Thanks for responding

yeah deaf in itself is the same but in some of my books it talks about "Deaf" in that sense as in their customs and culture and as a group and then i've seen "deaf" when its discussing the actual thing in itself. How is your newphew coping with this? Does he go to a deaf school?
