The Joys of the Tupperware Cupboard.

Tupperware - Wonderlier Bowls
United States

When my children were little I quickly found the best way to keep them occupied while I was doing dishes or puttering around the kitchen. I kept my Tupperware containers in one cupboard in the kitchen. My children would spend a great deal of time removing the bowls, cups and other items from this cupboard. I would give them wooden spoons to play with and they had a blast. Put the lid on a bowl and it can be used as a drum. Yes, it is noisy, but it is less noise than if they beat on a pan.

I have too many children to allow them to do that! If they were in the kitchen playing with the tupperware, I would be constantly tripping over them. Great idea though! But not so great when one has seven children. ha ha

Yes, mine loved the Tupperware cupboard. They had a ball playing chef and mixing up lunch. :) They could play for hours and being right near me was a great way to keep an eye on them. They enjoyed using the wooden spoons and playing the drums with them. They also like putting things inside of the containers, making interesting noises with them. I wonder if all that helped my son be interested in cooking? He is a chef now. LOL

Great idea. Does anyone buy tupperware anymore? It is very expensive. They last forever though.

I only buy it on rare occasions. I love the storage bowls. The sandwich keepers are great. We bought two for hubby to bring his sandwiches to work in. That was 5 years ago and we still have them.

I have no tupperware at all. And you reminded me to buy some. I have the cheap containers and they are just not cutting it. I know tupperware is pricy but I think its worth it. Wheres a tupperware party when I need one?

Sometimes you can find a vendor setup in the mall, but unfortunately it is only around the holidays. I would like to have a party, but who would come? Maybe it is best to buy online.

What ever works. Mine played with wooden spoon and disposible pie pans. Yep, it was noisy.

Mine did the pie pans too, until I took them away and gave them the Tupperware.

yeah...i love the idea of a special little cabinet for the kids to play in. Both of my kids were never interested in the cabinet contents, though. They both want to help me do the cooking so that is what I do. I have had them do different things for me in the kitchen to keep them occupied. For instance, if I peel potatoes, I have my 2 yr old throw the peels away...My 5 yr old will help me mash the potatoes and they help mix the cake together. We also love to make bread together and the love the kneading part! LOL Sorry, I got a little off track, but thought I would share a little of how I keep my kids out of the way and happy in the kitchen, too. :)

I love it when my grandson comes to visit. He likes to knead the bread and I cannot do it anymore due to my carpal tunnel. We always cook or bake with him when he is visiting us.

yeah you are right, tupperware is not as noisy as the cans, well honestly you found another use of your tupperware as a noisical instrument for your grand children to have fun, my mother she has her all set of tupperware until now because she was a dealer of tupperware too. did u know any benefits for old tupperware dealers before?

I'd do that too sometimes, but I'd have dishes all over the place then, and I'd re wash the dishes. NO I think the girls playing with their own kitchen is the best!

I made sure that I washed the dishes before I used them.

i used to do this too...i would rather they played with plastic rather than iron skillets!..lol...the plastic bowls and the wooden spoons kept my kid occupied for hours. My floor was always clean, so all I did was rinse them off after they used them. ...a small price to pay for a little time off when they were little!

I didn't bother rinsing them off after they used them. However, I would give them a wash if I needed to use them.

I have a picture of myself at age two, asleep in the tupperware cupboard. It's amazing how with all the toys out there, children have great imaginations and can be delighted by the simplest things like a couple of bowls and a wooden spoon.

We did not have tupperware when we were growing up so I had to make due with Pots & Pans. My girlfriend's daugher-in-law now sells tupperware, so I will have to remember that trick if/when any babies come along.

Thats really good way to occupy the childern. I have two small childern, both either fight with each other or keep on tearing the newspapers or tissues. I had bought child tea set which contain lot of small cups, plates and other vessels. They keep busy with their toys sets when I am busy at kitchen. Some time they wash them , some time make coffee, tea and then serve me.

You are so right. My son is spoiled rotten by all the family ( first grandchild on both sides). My mom sends him something in the mail all the time. But instead of all the toys he has, he loves to play with tupperwear, bowls, cups, and spoons. I told everyone to stop wasting there money.

Agreed! ;-) It may be noisy but you're right, it's better than if they beat on a pan, and they are somewhere where you are able to keep an eye on them. That's a great idea. Remember to remind your babysiters of that too, incase the kids get bored and want to beat the heck out of something. LOL
