I have been around windows computer all my life. I had experienced using the windows 3.1, 95, 98, ME, 2000, and now am currently using windows xp professional edition. What are the benefits of an upgrade to vista? I would like to know the opinions of others. Microsoft has promised security features that do not allow intruders to easily hack into your computer. The vulnerabilities that were exploited in microsoft windows xp are said to be fixed. How do you consider the release to be of benefit to you?

Hi man ... even i have tried all this versions of windows and even many from linux too ... the best one i found was windows Xp professional sp2..... The latest release was vista ... got many changes in the looks and itz black ... is cool ... ur system should have min 1 gb ram (even 512 will do) then only u can use all the features ... one of frends got vista with his new pc and has 1 gb ram ... but he says that the system is too slow .... it takes too much time to load. .. and there are a lot more features in networking ... and it suport the new ip version also ... i say that u can upgrade to vista if you have a latest dual core system ... and 2 gb min ram and 160 gb hdd . or more .. and a cool graphics card .. then surely you can opt for .. it ... then you will have very impressing performance...

Thanks for the insight. I was pretty sure that upgrading my OS software would require me too update my hard drive as well as the minimum requirements for the new OS would be insufficient if I used the same hardware as I am using now. Maybe just buying a new desktop would be best instead of upgrading.. I do not know yet.

I have the same you have. I was thinking about upgrading as I really like to make my own schemes and desktop themes and such, and Vista allows you to do that.

Thanks for your reply, I knew about that already and I think it is a good feature microsoft has included in its new software. I am however concerned with the new security fixes microsoft has included in the new OS

Ya I heard that too....Vista is coming with a lot moe built in softwares...But then what is the need for other ecurity softwares like Norton,etc... They are all releasing their Vista versions....

Well if windows come out with its own built in software, than I would not be surprised that sales of other antivirus and security software goes down. The fact that Norton has been on the market for so long will help it fight in the ongoing tensions between corporations, but I do beleive they will lose profits because of the new vista. Nevertheless, I would still use Norton on my computer as I do now, as trusting microsoft with security is not something I indulge in.

I agree with you, windows xp, when it first came out had a hand full of vulnerabilities and security hole that made microsoft act fast to fix all the mess, and is still showing breaches in security. Hopefully vista will be a resolution to microsofts security issues and correct those problems.

At some point you'll have to upgrade to Vista, as support for XP will eventually cease(as has happenned with all previous versions of windows). I use XP Pro SP2 on all my machines and very rarely have any problems. That said though I have used Vista on a colleagues machine and top-end machines being built and whilst there are many advantages over XP there are numerous disadvantages...the biggest being that virtually any machine will always be well below the Vista rating system...had machines rank anywhere between 1.1 and 7...nothing higher. Main advantages between upgrading from XP to Vista seem to be the increased search facility, network security and lots of bells and whistles...but do you really need all that? Personally I'll be sticking with XP for a good few months yet, although probably will build a top-end machine to just have Vista running on...

Thanks for the comment, but do you really think that they will drop the customer support for xp? That wouldnt be too good on microsfts reputation, and alot of people still use the xp OS. Maybe after a even newer version comes out after vista and so forth will it force everyone to change to the newer versions

I don't think its right time to upgrade right now. I'd rather wait until one service pack is released to be sure about its stability and security.

Exactly. That way the more obvious problems are fixed. Does anyone remember XP.0? It was horrendous, all kinds of peripherals and software would not work with it.

I think it's better because of the new features and upgrades, there is always something better coming out, I have not used vista as yet, still using xp, but I do believe I will upgrade in the near future.

I would wait for a little longer before upgrading. Just to get more reviews and to make sure there aren't any bugs in the system (I'm sure we all remember the windows me fiasco). Just give it a little bit on the market and find someone who owns it and check iut the functionality first hand. Good luck.

I do not know anyone who has the Vista. I am eager to hear reviews also. I have XP, and one with Millineium, which I did not like so much. What is SP 2? and how do I get it ? I do not want to be a breeding ground for anything!

Hey guys i can give you a few tips and the pros and cons of vista. All right it has an in-built personal firewall and spam features. It requires a minimum of 9 GB for the installation and the proper working of the computer.it needs a 1GB RAM for the effective functioning.all thses pertains to WINDOWSS VISTA ULTIMATE.there are other options of windows home and pro which also have these features.what seperates the ULTIMATE from the rest is the new aerotechnology which gives the display like a MAC system. But the flip side is that i heard you need a special card to install the aerotechnology.and also it is impossible to use one hard drive on another computer.but the fell and working aroun vista is said to be superb.it wont be much of a change for MAC users. Those using XP will find it as a treat to use.

not at all, even you got a very good computer, the system will show a lot of failures, you must better wait some time until vista is more developed, and buy a new computer with the system installed, because from what i heard vista is giving a lot of trouble, specially managing various programs running at the same time, cause it devours a big amount of system resources

Thanks for the comment. I think everybody who is using xp must have SP2 installed, or else their computers are a breading ground for viruses, malware, and security holes enabling hackers and intruders to gain acces to your computer.

im currently using windows xp professional also.. but vista looks pretty cool from the screenshots i've seen. im pretty sure it will benefit us with newer development of softwares. its like any other windows, you cant go on living without upgrading to the newest stuff.. before people had windows 2000 or ME, now majority of the people who use computers often are using xp.. i have to say that vista could be the new thing that everyone will change to.

As Vista is the latest version of Windows....Its gotta be better than the previous versions.....There are many new features in it and enhanced security....I like the one which allows to use the USB drive as virtual RAM...Thats cool.... But what I feel is that Mac is still better....its invulnerable....whatever MICROSOFT says....Windows always had and will have a lot of security vulnerabilities....But Vista is obviously a better choice than XP but is a bit more EXPENSIVE... Whatever be it...I think its worth upgrading to VISTA...After all MICROSOFT WINDOWS has always been the most popular

man u have read the old reviews, u got to read the new ones, windows vista is jus a pretty boy with some little added features idea of course stolen from MAC osx if u have used OSX u know what i am talking about, and u need very strong hardware to run it, in the requirement says at least 1 GB of RAM and u need a very good graphic card and if u want to get a decent speed out of it u would need more than 1 GB.so i say it doesn't worth it to upgrade it. + lots of promises that microsoft made didn come through in this new windows that is why i said u need to read the new reviews about vista. Overall i dun recommand it all. i would say it would be best for u guys to switch to linux or Mac OSX.It is much easier, and more reliable to use. Windows users spend too much time on fixing their comp, defragmenting it , getting security updates, running anti virus software, and whole lot more to get work out of your system, in other OS you dun have these kinda problems. sorry got a little bit of off topic there. but windows make me arggggggggghhhhh

This time Microsoft consentrated more on visual and security development....But it may not bring much difference than Xp in terms of msoffice and other stuff..... If u use these much, Vista is not a different one.... But u can get more security 4 ur system

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/175/vistapackopenut2.jpg Im a Windows user.. and so far.. I found out that the most reliable and stable Windows OS is Microsoft Windows XP.. and i dont think of upgrading it to Vista at all. You know why? Its consume a lot of your hardisk space. 8 Gigs is not worth it. The disk space is unreasonable and it also make all your PCs processing power utilised.. for those who want to feel Vista in your PC, just install Vista transformation pack then :p
