They pay the most for stuff that they ask for in special content offers. The most I made was for a sports article about pro wreslters who also played pro football. If it's rich in keywords and something people may search for, it usually pays well.

They'll give more for a concrete topic with a good searchable headline. For instance I wrote one on Special Bible Verses for a Christian Wedding Ceremony, and got the most for it.

It's also a good idea to search the site for a topic before writing an article. If the topic has already been written about a number of times, you'll probably get a lower offer than if you wrote about something that's more original.

Look at your messages, you should have a message asking if you can provide content on the following and a list of things they are actively seeking. You can also use the links in your welcome to AC mail to subscribe to a newsletter telling you what they are currently actively seeking. They always want "How To" stuff and so far they have paid me for both articles I submitted, a How to do an Easter Treasure Hunt and a movie review. They like reviews of local businesses and stuff too. You can become a local celebrity if you do reviews, print them, take them to the business to frame on the wall, soon everyone in town will roll out the red carpet for you so you will write good things about them!

I've read that they will not pay for poetry and once received a $3 offer on a restaurant review I did (non-chain restaurant) along with a note from a content editor which stated they normally DO NOT pay for local restaurant reviews unless it's along the lines of "Top Three Mexican Restaurants in AnyTown, USA." I also received $10 this month for an article about starting to save for Christmas 2007 which leads me to believe that timeliness of your article is important. This is probably the last day or so to submit something Valentine Day related and I understand they're really looking for tax time articles. Also keep in mind St. Patrick's Day is coming up. My subjects to date have been: Consumer review on a digital camera; restaurant review; shopping review on a Tuesday Morning store; tips on buying vintage jewelry on Ebay; the Christmas savings article; and an article on thrift store shopping for which I just received $11. My range of pay has been $3-11 but I read somewhere else that a well-written article got an offer of $50.

I have made most of my money off of traveling tips and reviews, but my highest paying piece was one that I wrote recently about ideas for creative writing for children. I think that children, creative ideas, and travel are topics that you can earn a lot in.

I am new to AC so don't pretend to be an expert by a long shot. But I logged in this morning to find I had a $25 offer for a piece on deciding whether to go to graduate school or work full-time after finishing college! I thought the maximum payout was $20 so I was very surprised (in a do a major happy dance kind of way!).

Keywords means like words that people normally would type into a search engine. For example : "How to remove stains from clothes" is along the lines of what someone might type to find an answer. And you can sign up for a newsletter that reports what special content they are looking for. Check in your message inbox to see if there's a message about content.
