Do you tell your children about the good old days??

Telling Stories - Storytelling is the art of portraying in words, images, and sounds what has happened in real or imagined events. The oldest forms of storytelling were oral. Later, stories could be conveyed by sculptures or writings on stone, wood, or parchment.

When I was little my grandmother would sit me down in front of the open fire in her bungalow and tell me stories about when she was young and things she did while growing up and I would love to listen, those were the good old days.... Does anyone do that anymore? I know I never seem to have the time to sit and talk for hours with my granchildren, either they or I are always far too busy...

Yes I do with my kids. I just recently exsplained to them when we were in school and if you were bad, they would paddle you for it. My children are in utter shock over this since schools no longer do that here since the late 70's. I talk to them about the fades and trends. They love hearing it, so it keeps me going :-)

I like many of the modern time savers that we have now. I think there was good and bad in the good ole days.I do tell them many stories and facts from the old days. Some of my grandchildren arent old enough to understand it all yet but when they are , yes I will tell them. I do remember all the stories that my grandparents told me.

Chriss, that is so sad; both for you and your grandchildren. Mine all live a bit too far away from me now to have those kinds of conversations with. I did talk a lot with one of my granddaughters when she lived just a few blocks from me. She loved stories I told about her mom. She also loved stories I told about my mother and my grandmother. If you don't have the time for sit-downs, can you make some time while you are sharing meals? Can you make some time to write letters to them in the evening? It is obvious that you wish to pass on some of your life to them, maybe you could just talk into a recorder as you go about your day. Love will find the right way for you to do it. I don't know any small children .. so my stories don't get told .. maybe one day I will write a little novel and put some of my escapades in there .. I don't think children are very interested in hearing about 'the good old days' anymore .. they are far too busy texting their mates ..

Yes! I do it all the time my kids use to love to here the stories they could even recite most, but now that they are getting older and more into friends they call it boring.

I dont see my children or my grandchildren as I dont even know where they live anymore. When I got divorced they stayed with their mother.
