Do you visit auction houses.

Do you have a auction house or rooms in your town? Every Monday we have a auction going on in our town here. Its not a large town really but we have an auction business that has been running for over 100 years now. Its rather a large site and as well as selling bric-a-brac there are also plants, small animals, furniture and many other things. I find it great to see all the old 'totters' collecting there and picking up bargains. As well as that the auctioneers have specialist sales where they sell books, paintings and antiques. These are good to visit as there you get all the people who really know their trade and most of them I found will give you a little advice if they are not bidding on the item you are talking about. I find it a great morning out. Do you visit auctions?

I'm a bookseller and I pick up a lot of inventory at auction houses. Sometimes I buy a little porcelain or an etching or two and put them on eBay. I LIVE for auctions. Auction merchandise usually costs a bit more than things at estate sales but it can't be beat. I usually just go to the weekly auctions near where I live in Pennsylvania since the catalog antique sales are very expensive. But this area is such a good hunting ground that you never know what will turn up. One week a couple years ago, a book in a box in the back room where the junk is kept went for $40,000.00. It was a Fine first printing of James Joyce's Ulysses. Needless to say I did not get that one. LOL

Hi again irisheyes I suppose that is where all farm equipment is laying about as they were left. I would love to visit one of these type of sales however don't they sell the sales brochures for a high price so that 'lookers' like me are put off going to them?

We have 2 of them here where I live. The one of them is really impressive. It has all these things that you are supposed to dream about and never be able to have since they cost too much.

Have you ever seen anything go for a lot of money? I would think there are many antiquities where you live. Thanks for posting remaster.

I love to go to the auctions live and online too. The excitement at a live auction is just grand..I try to find unique items for my home and also to list on some of the auctions I list online. I have seen some pretty old and new items go for a pretty penny, but it amazes me the things i think would sell really high are a steal and sold for pennies on the $$. If you have never attended one live, you need to experience it once in your lifetime. It is also addictive too.

Yes 'mcc371. I agree it is addictive but I haven't brought home anything I have been disappointed with. I bought a mountain bike for roughly half the price it would cost in a shop and my son loved it. Can I ask....Is that a picture of your cat in your avatar? He/she looks so cute. I bet it wasn't to pleased to be under that fruit! Looks like a good crash helmet though! LOL

I LIVE for auctions! We have quite a few in our area, one that runs weekly, a couple that run monthly and ones that happen every few months. I have never seen small animals auctioned though, so maybe that's against the law here in Ohio. It's amazing, some of the things that you can pick up at auctions!

Yes it is surprising what you can buy at auctions so long as you are careful. I do think that our local auctions have recently stopped selling livestock. Thanks for your input 'bonbon'

yes, we have auction houses here where i live. I know that they are good places to get bargains and find certain things. But i really don't like going to them. And the reason is, my dad use to make me go to auctions when i was younger, when he'd go. And they were so boring for me then, and i have no kind of passion for them now.

I've seen those Wade pieces go for a tidy penny but I don't think there is much chance of picking one up cheap these day, people are getting cuter. Do you watch the property action program on TV? Thanks for posting friend.

I'd never been to a "regular" auction before... When I was little, I always went to farm auctions with my dad and grandpa. And there were cows, pigs, etc..lol. Smelled horrible! =P But, this past Saturday, my husband and I went to an auction and I loved it!!! We bought quite a few things that are now on Ebay, because someone else thought it was junk and it turned out to be some antique piece that will eventually be worth a lot of money!!
@Evacuee (1147)

Hey Ambur....as you youngsters say....Way to go!!LOL Yes I have done that too because its amazing what you can sell on eBay. Good luck and thanks for posting.

I love to go to auctions. Unfortunately, the auction places around where I live tend to come and go. Just as soon as I think I've found a good one, it goes out of business. There is one large one, but it's turned to only auctioning high end estate items, and I'm not into that. I like the auctions that sell everyday things, where I can get a bargain on things that I would use all the time.

i've never been to an auction house, and i think that's for the best, because i've visited some auction sites, and found them to be totally addictive, almost destructive, but that's just me. an auction addict, but i like the whole 'bidding for the best' concept.
@Evacuee (1147)
30 Jan 07
Well I think auction sites on the net are completely different from real life auctions. You cannot see the item on virtual auctions but you can pick up or view closely anything you want in real life ones. Thanks for posting 'vega'

I have never been to a live auction but I've always wanted to. They look very interesting. My husband has been to a few here in town at the local storage facilities. When someone doesn't pay their monthly fees for storage, then the items in the storage area are auctioned off. Actually they auction off the whole storage area to the highest bidder and then that person gets everything inside. They are able to take a look for a few hours before the auction starts. My husband has never bid on anything but he wants to so he's going just to watch for now. Good luck, sounds like you enjoy it alot!

I reckon that might be a good buy. To buy a whole room full of stuff from a storage company. You might find some treasures there! But I think you husband is wise looking the way the land lies so to speak, before he starts bidding. Thanks for posting 'Heaven'
29 Jan 07
I would guess so. I've never been to one, but my grandfather used to visit 'em + bid for certain things. I wouldn't know where to look myself, searching the nets a good idea because i would like to go see something new + maybe pick something up. wooden draw.. sold £1000 lol ~Joey

Yes there are several where I live.We have them on Sunday evening,Saturday Night,and Thursday night...I really enjoy going and its like the people there you get to know them and its like family..My dad was a big auction goer when i was a child,and i remember them well even from back then..I have got a lot of nice things there,and some antiques also...I like it because you don,t have to go out and search for things,if you go long enough someone will finally bring something in to auction that you have been looking for.We have a great auctioneer,and we have a blast...

Just recently I started bidding in one local online auction website. I get hooked very quickly. It's really fun and addictive. I can just guess how much more fun it is if you do it in live! Will definitelly try it if I find one locally.

On line auctions are very handy 'edorajh' but you must be careful you can trust the seller. Thanks for your input.
