we are planning to migrate to Canada, and i need advice on how i can help them cope with the transition from the way of life that they were used to, to a completely new environment... they are ages 14, 12, and 6, and God willing, our papers will be ready by next year. For our friends in Canada, can you pls share your views, and i will really appreciate it... thanks...

Welcome to Canada!! I am hoping the move for your family goes smoothly and your family can assimilate well yet still keep your culture. When you arrive, one of the organizations just about everywhere in Canada is the Welcom Wagon which will give you alot of information and tips about your new location. There are also many cultural organizations that will help you and your family settle in. Again, welcome to canada!!

u should enquire about the good schools in canada for ur children and make sure that they get adjusted to the environment. u should also observe them once they get admission to the schools so that u can detect the changes of the environment. there r many things to be taken care of for example their friend circle, their activities etc. have a nice time.

Welcome to Canada, I am from Atlantic Canada. Its a really great place to raise your children. I move around a lot with the children because of my husbands job. Not quite the same move that you will be experiencing. Although the transition will no doubt be difficult its surprising how children accept the changes, get the involved in activities and try to get settled as quickly as possible so that they have a sense of stability. This really mad all the difference in the world with our moves. Good Luck!

the kids are all excited! especially about the snow! our destination might be Winnipeg, and from my research, it's very cold out there, just the other day it was -36C. Oh my! coming from a tropical country, we will have a lot of adjustment, really.

I have a friend who is facing that same situation like yours. Once your family get there, you will both work im sure. But who will attend the kids? Of course one of you will not work just to attend the kids. You can ask them what they expect in canada so that you will have an idea on what they were thinking. Then start making them understand about the reality in there. Let them do or guide or train them in some household chores so that both of you can work and the kids would grow up responsible in so many things. Training kids on household chores starts from younger age 'coz they can easily grasp what you would want them to learn. Give them knowledge on what to do during emergencies, coz its important.

even now, we are already training our kids to do some household chores, and last week we had a family meeting and we discussed what they (the kids) can expect when we arrive in Canada. they have lots of concerns/questions, and in the end, we just asked them to just continue praying that everything will be all right, and that everything will happen according to God's will. thanks!

Meeting new friends in Canada will surely help your kids to cope up with the new environment. Take them to various clubs which they would be interested in. Enroll them to sport activities, dance and voice lessons. Join community organizations. Take them to theme parks or beautiful spots in Canada so that they would see all its wonders.
