Have you experienced this? What happened? I have experienced this in many places at different times and would love to hear about your experience.

We had a power black out a couple of months ago. We got hit with a storm the week before christams and it knocked power out all around our region. Some people were unfortunate enough that their power was being hooked back up on Christmas Eve and some one Chistmas Day. Where I live, we were back up and running withing 24 hours. It was pretty amazing. But the destruction in the area was pretty impressive as well.

So it was a bit of a dark Christmas for some. Sad. I wonder if there is some way of balancing local power generation with long distance transmission, like in parts of Europe. But that may not be adequate insurance against natural calamities.

Ok here is one experience I couldn't forget. I used to work in an office situated on the 38th floor of a building. While on my way down on an elevator, the power failed, we got stuck for 3 hours, no lights, no airconditing, no power back up. The following morning, the power failed again and there was an announcement that it will take a week for it to be restored and back to normal. I didn't want to be absent so I had to walk the stairs up in the morning and down in the after noon.

Awesome experience. Did you have pleasant company in the elevator? What did you do for 3 hours. Many office workers talk about the "daily grind" but you experienced the daily climb! What country was this in?

many times i have experienced this and we usually sit around reading by torchlight, we are lucky enough to have gas so making hot drinks wasnt a problem, i think the longest we were without electricity was 12 hours. I've never been anywhere other than at hme when this happened so cant imagine waht it would be like if you were in the middle of a movie or show at the theatre.

It is romantic to read by torchlight! This happens many times in the United Kingdom? How many times has it happened in the last year? What did you feel?

I experienced blackouts in Manila, Philippines. The most recent ones were the nationwide blackouts in 2000. The Department of Energy blamed jellyfish clogging the Hydroelectric dam for the blackouts. As absurd as it was, that's what they released to the media. My friends and I the constant conspiracy theorists, thought that it was the government's plan to have a dry-run for the elections. Although we couldn't prove it for ourselves, the number of officials who had upset victories (0 chances to win) against highly favored (and deserving) candidates did somehow sound fishy.
