I love the John Wayne war movies. It's impossible for me to pick an absolute favorite among them... can I just choose all of them where John Wayne wins the battle and gets the girl???? Private Ryan is a great film, but it made me cry. I'm such a softie.

John Wayne - John Wayne in the western and war films.
I liked "Good Morning Vietnam" and "Born on the 4th Of July". I too am a huge John Wayne fan, but haven't watched any of his war pictures in years. Here are a few that I remember..."Hellfighters", "The Longest Day", and "Sands of Iwo Jima". I hope this helps give you some ideas.

this is a tough question to answer as there are too many good ones. Schidler's List is good and so is Platoon, Good Morning Vietnam, We were Soldiers, Saving Private Ryan, Gone with the Wind, Lawrence of Arabia and a lot more.

The best is Twelve O'Clock High. It showed what really went on and the psychological forces that went on, and what they had to go through and they did a lot of research before filming it.

Patton is my personal favorite. But Saving Private Ryan is so realistic, it is like being there. For cold war movies, The Hunt for Red October is awesome.
