Hi there...although tri-colours are more likely to be females there are male calico/tortoise shells as well. It has to do with the genetic chromosomes. This also applies to orange/ginger tabbies where most are males, however there are females just not as commonly seen. Again this is all related to the chromosomal makeup of the XY genes. The scientific explanation is long, however if you are interested to learn more about this you can read about it from the following link: http://www.fanciers.com/cat-faqs/tricolors.shtml and http://www.messybeast.com/mosaicism.htm The good luck symbolism of the tricolour cats is founded based cultural beliefs. Asian cultures and as well as other cultures have arbitrarily placed this upon the tricoloured cats such as the Japanese Maneki Neko cat.

I have already encountered male cats with 3 colors. But, mostly, they are females. Cats with 3 colors are not that many but neither are they that rare. I have heard from a woman about 10 years ago already, that they bring good luck. That if I find one, I must buy it right away. I didn't believe her, so until this time I do not have one. I hope you are not that supertitious. Good luck comes to us if we just keep on working at it.
