It is my belief that sites such as mylot possess the potential to have a profound impact upon the global community. I would like to open this discussion as a forum for people to come together to express their concerns and to propose practical solutions to bringing about positive change not only for people, but also for the Earth. Please take the time to share with us what you think can have a positive impact upon our children's heritage. What kind of world are we leaving to our children? How can we improve global issues such as corporate greed, climate change, injustice, war, and famine? Change must begin with the individual and this is my small attempt to bring together a more global awareness, atleast on mylot. Afterall, it is ignorance which spawns evil. Let's start talking so that we can come into the light, together as one.

Well, on the subject of climate change, I think that could be helped some with consumers buying smaller vehicles instead of suv's or even promoting car pooling or even bike riding, walking, etc. to cut down on gas emissions. That might also affect some of the corporate greed in the oil companies. But looking back in time, climate change is a natural thing that has occured for millions of years, even before pollution, cars, nuclear energy, burning of fossil fuels, etc. As for war and famine, I do not know what could be done to stop those issues. I think man will always be fighting for some reason or another, and I think with such a vast population, there will always be someone going hungry somewhere. I think helping in the community where you live is the first step, if everyone helped out in their own community, think of the difference that would make.

Great response, gypsylady! I hope that anyone who comes upon this discussion is affected in a positive manner! You are absolutely right in saying that global change begins on a local level! And that's why mylot can be so positive because we can affect someone half way across the world and yet, mylot feels like a local, yet global community! Thank you again for your thoughts and recommendations! Good stuff! -Charlie

I'm surprised there hasn't been more of a response to this one yet. I was interested to see what others were thinking.

I definately think mylot could do alot of good all over the globe. When I first came on board I was skeptical about getting involved with a chat group. But now I have met so many nice people on this lot and there helpful advice that I am starting to feel good about myself.

I am happy to hear that some small and positive change had occurred for you! I hear you about the skepticism - I wonder if people would rather just have fun on the computer than to have deep and philisophical conversations. That may be exactly why this post has not received much response - it's just too deep. People would rather talk about gum on the bottom of their shoe! lol! Regardless, thank you very much, sharon, for adding to this discussion.

You might be right, but I will always maintain hope for the human condition to change for the better, even in the slightest amount. But I hear what you are saying; but I feel despair when I think about the inability of people to change and that is exactly why I am raising this discussion. Even the smallest change in one person is a step in the right direction. Thank you for your input, funfreak!

It is said that knowledge is power and we do have a unique opportunity here to share what we know to be true and empower each other. Encouraging others to do there best and what they can in their own communities. So I am with you when we recognize and ignite the passions that can do us all some good!

I could not have said it better myself! That's exactly why I raised this discussion. Global awareness starts on a local scale and mylot can't be more local in reality - it's on your computer in your living room!
